Really enjoyed the whole series. Original and well plotted.
3.5*

3.5 stars. Overall I thought this was a fitting end to the series. A lot of pieces came together well from all of the books and I appreciated that not everyone makes it out in the last few chapters. Brett had really heavy stakes built into the plot and it would have been dishonest to those stakes for everyone to live. And despite some sad ends, the ending is sunny and hopeful.
Two things kept me from bumping this up to four stars. First were the writing problems I mentioned in my review of [b:The Skull Throne|13630171|The Skull Throne (Demon Cycle, #4)|Peter V. Brett|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1408637760l/13630171._SY75_.jpg|19237752]. The second is Leesha.
I don't like Leesha and I haven't since the second book. I don't, however, blame the book for that. The series has a wide range of characters and its not really reasonable to expect to like everyone, just like in life. My problem with Leesha, though, is that Brett seems so insistent that the reader knows that everyone loves her. There is not a single character chapter for her in this book where someone doesn't make it a point to let the reader know that they would die for Leesha. None of these characters treat anyone else like this and it doesn't really make any sense story or character wise.
This was a fun ride though, overall, and I'm glad I stuck with the series. I am looking forward to trying whatever Brett decides to do next.

Piss-poor ending to an otherwise entertaining series. The ending totally negates several points of character development setup throughout the book, characters are killed simply to get them out of the writer's way, and most of the plot points and twists serve no purpose to the overall narrative. It felt like a guy finishing a book series with no idea why he ever started it.
Don't bother.

This was a fantastic conclusion to an amazing series.
I enjoyed almost everything about this book. I even started to like Renna, who I have hated since her appearance. The lack of Rojer still made me sad though. The only character I was not super into was Ragen's story.
I am always nervous reading the last book in a series by an author that I have never read a completed series by. The potential for them to leave us with a crappy ending is always there. I am very happy to say the end of this series did not disappoint. I thought this book was much better than books 3 and 4 in the series.
I am looking forward to reading the last novella in the series later this year along with anything else Mr. Brett publishes.

2.5/5
well this took me forever. The series as well as this book specifically.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series but every book afterward has been downward for me.
There was not one character that I liked really in this series and there were a lot of characters which I hated. I did like the final few chapters but the end was a bit...unexpected?
I especially did not like the way the author wrote women so that made reading this very exhausting sometimes. The world was interesting though.
