Ok, so many reviews focus on Cayden and rightfully so, but everyone who has read this series, can we please for a moment give the moment to Elowen.
We all love the dedicated male, we are obsessed with how obsessed Cayden is. It's great, but while this series is about both of them- its about Elowen, and she does not disappoint.
The feminine rage of this book....the lines for women taking back their own power....
"Strength comes from so many places, but for women, it comes from within us. We are not defined by what is done to us, and we are made of more than the abuse we suffer."
Elowen is healing in this book, she loves Cayden but feels betrayed and rightfully so. She has been a pawn her entire life and while Cayden helped her start building her strength back up she needed to do it for herself.
“I am a woman. My taste for blood stems from the need to replenish what was drained from my body when men decided I was not a person, I was property.”
Olivia's writing is breathtaking. While the beginning may have felt slow, I felt it let the readers really get to know both Elowen and Cayden which makes their relationship that much better.
That ending....

Safe to say, I was thoroughly disappointed by Wrath of the Dragons, both as a book in its own right and as a sequel to Fear The Flames.
Coming into this book, and for the first 100-pages or so, I was insanely exited for this book. The themes, the events, the tension, quite frankly everything were sort of weaving in to what was shaping up to be a brilliant story. Even seeing Elowen grow into herself in the wake of the end of Fear The Flames was an utter treat.
Then, post page 100 or so, the book figuratively tanked. The style of narration began to get supremely annoying, especially in Cayden's POV (more on that later), and the story began to lull a bit. It felt like we would go from action scene to action scene without any sort of cooldown, or our two main characters would barely interact with each other and suddenly know everything the other did without even a smidgen of communication. It came to a point that I felt we, as readers, were being shown everything and how each person feels for a marketing quote rather than some of the parts of narration actually having anything to say.
Cayden and Elowen's relationship throughout this book felt incredibly hollow, as compared to what they had going on in the first book. Don't get me wrong, I'm a girlie who loves a good established relationship and the stories that arise from that plot, but unfortunately (unlike in the first book), the worldbuilding wasn't strong enough to cover for their mediocre romance. Nothing felt grounded in even a little bit of reality, and both of them seemed to morph into somewhat different people when with the other partner.
Honestly, it all just felt a little stilted. I'm not entirely sure whether this was me simply not enjoying the First Person narration, but the action and political intrigue we were getting felt unrelated to whatever was going on inside each characters head. Additionally, there was so much telling (Oh, I don't like it when this happens) as compared to showing (I grimaced). It was insanely infuriating to read, especially when each characters motivations sounded more like certain plot elements rather than well-defined people.
I also think that ending was stupid and should have been handled differently. A twist for the sake of a twist, which I am usually not the biggest fan of.

I loved book 1 and was so excited to get to book 2. I loved the journey this story took, I loved the found family and devotion between the MC’s. I loved the cliff hanger this one left me on and I’m very excited for the next book.

Sadly this book just didn’t do it for me. I rarely need to look up previous books to do a synopsis and try to remember what happened but with this series, everything blanked out for me.
I didn’t feel any connections to the characters and I found Elowen unlikeable and wishy washy in this book. I feel like if I was more invested the ending would’ve been a good cliffhanger but the only thing enjoyable for me was the smut. The plot itself didn’t intrigue me. The romance was there but it needed more interaction instead of self inflection in my opinion.

My heart hurts! I laughed I cried, I swooned. Can’t wait for the next book and hope that we get the resolution we deserve
