I went into this pretty sceptical because Magnolia Parks was a 2 star book for me and I hated their world and the characters.

First of all I hate Jessa Hastings writing sometimes (and it makes me sad because so many people love it 😭) because to me it feels like she’s trying so hard to write poetically and it just cringes me a lot.
Also I did feel like Julian’s POV chapters weren’t really necessary and the book could’ve been way shorter and just as good without them.

I have to say tho that I loved Daisy, I really liked Romeo (I’m shipping them so hard) and I also enjoyed Christian a lot. They didn’t annoy or cringe me all that much compared to Magnolia and BJ and I could empathize Daisy a lot. I’m really looking forward to the other Daisy books and because of the Magnolia chapter at the end I’m also looking forward to her other books! 😮‍💨

I did enjoy Magnolia Parks, but it was just a bit too toxic for me, and I absolutely despised BJ. However, I was still really curious about Daisy & Christian, so I was still hyped to read this book. I'm very glad to report that hype was justified as I enjoyed this so much more than book one.
I mean, Daisy and Christian were still extremely disfunctional, don't get me wrong. They still aren't a relationship I would ever root for in real life. However, why I liked their relationship more than Magnolia and BJ's is because it felt like they actually like each other. With Magnolia and BJ, yeah it was obvious they love each other, but the way they hurt each other constantly felt like they didn't even like each other. Christian and Daisy just had other issues going on, and difficult lives and situations that lead to them being as disfunctional as they are, but it is so clear they love and like each other the entire way through. It made everything about this so much more of an enjoyable read.
On top of that the plot in this one was rooted in like the crime/gangs/maffia scene, which made the over the topness and high dramaness of everything just feel less out of place in a way. I don't know how to explain it. It just caused for some high stakes moments, and overall it was just an extremely engaging read. I absolutely flew through it, and just didn't want to put this down at all.
On top of all of that I do just also like these characters more. I think Christian and Daisy were just really complex characters, and I quite liked seeing their developement throughout the novel. I also loved getting Julian's POV in this book. He is also an incredibly interesting character, and his POV did add quite a bit throughout this book. I hope this means he'll play a bigger part in the series because I'm quite curious to see where his character is going to go next. So yeah, I really liked this book a lot, and I'm even excited to read more about Magnolia and BJ right now.

I was genuinely shocked when I was reading the acknowledgments and saw that this book had an editor. Like actually I'm not even joking. I think this is the most misogynistic and sexist book I've ever read. I am baffled that people can read this and feel even a semblance of enjoyment. I cannot effectively express how God-awful this book is

Daisy Haites is the second book in the Magnolia Parks Universe. It follows Daisy Haites a second year medical student and her love interest Christian Hemmes who you would have met in the first book. It also follows Daisy’s brother Julian Haites who is a crime boss.

Daisy is a badass who is easy to root for. She’s trying to balance her normal life of being a university medical student, with being the sister of one of the most powerful gang lords in England. Not to mention her off again, on again relationship with her childhood sweetheart, Romeo. Christian is struggling with his lingering feelings for Magnolia, and his new burgeoning feelings for Daisy. Even though he’s a gang lord as well doesn’t mean that he and Daisy are without conflict. Julian tries to do right by his sister, but will his crime lifestyle finally come between them?

This is another emotional read from this series and I can’t wait to read the next one.

Will I ever recommend this series to someone I care about? Absolutely not. Will I continue to read every book in this series? Absolutely, yes.

If someone described the plot of these books to me, I would consider their taste questionable, but I CANNOT STOP. I won’t be stopped. These books are exactly the fly-on-the-wall drama that I live for.

Also, whoever said they’re a Christian Hemmes apologist for life? Solidarity, sister.
