Originally it was a 3/5 because Tweedy isn't a great writer (nor should he be--he's spending all this time on songwriting). BUT, weeks later, I'm still inspired to do more of my own songwriting with less fear, so 4/5.

I really enjoyed this book and its practical, practicable tips. It really breaks down how to be open to creativity in the first place, which is a lesson that definitely takes time and development.

Love Jeff’s authorial voice and his points on why people don’t create are valid. Docked a star for just not liking motivational-type works.
Surprisingly moving little how to on songwriting, but can really apply to any creative endeavor. It was fun to spend some time in Jeff Tweedy's head.
I don't know that this is the only book you'd need if you want to learn songwriting, but it sure is inspiring, and it has some interesting suggestions for writing exercises.
On my bucket list is to write at least one album's worth of songs I'd feel proud releasing. Saw this book on sale and had to get it; I had Wilco's "AM" on repeat for much of my time in college and my first intense songwriting phase (they had other albums out that I liked too but I always went back to "AM"). I've continued writing here and there, but I guess I'm in my second intense songwriting phase, twenty-five years later.
I love that Tweedy's dad said, "The years between when I was forty-five and fifty-five were the most productive of my whole life," as I'm hoping they will be mine as well.

Super inspiring on a creative level. I can’t imagine a better book on songwriting.
