I’m sorry, I HAVE to take off stars for the melodramatic, over-explanatory writing and completely unrealistic and over-written dialogue. It took away from what is actually a great story.
I liked: the surprising sister dynamic, the multiple romances, the VERY flawed FMC (sexual promiscuity, violence, alcoholism, etc.), the descriptions of the setting, and the side characters. I also love a last-minute betrayal, and we got a couple here (Erabus you fucking bastard, and actually fuck you Ares!)
But this desperately needed an editor and a dialogue coach. I cringed at the proclamations of “love” and the formal way of speaking and the verbal over-explaining of everything they discover. I thought I’d get used to it after the 150 pages of world-building, but nope.
I think I’d be interested in book 2 but it doesn’t even have a pub date and fuck knows I’m not going to remember a SINGLE thing when the sequel comes out, so I don’t know if it’s worth my time.

I started out 2023 with a book by Jessica, it only felt right to kick off 2025 the same way, and The Fall of the Horizon did not disappoint!
After a war between the primordials and deities, where Gods were kicked out of the mortal realm, a new world has begun.
The story follows three different POVs. Zara an eleven mercenary who is forced to serve the High King. Her sister Daria the princess of Ikarrian, and Ronan the archangel with a mysterious past.
Every year there is a hunting season where the High King assigns guilds different targets to hunt down. This season Zara, the High King's personal assassin otherwise known as the Rogue, is assigned to hunt down and kill the leader of the shadow market. Ronan is facing challenges of his own and recruits Zara and her guild for assistance. The unlikely group band together to look into what's happening across the continent. There is a mystery element, betrayals, romance and more!
This book had the perfect balance between plot and romance. I absolutely loved the world Jessica has developed and cannot wait to see how the story progresses. There is a cast of loveable side characters, my favorite being Hakin. Daria really surprised me, I can't wait to see how her storyline progresses.
I could go on forever but here are some highlights
•first book in a series
•elves, vampires, archangels, shifters, etc.
•elemental magic
•morally grey characters
•multiple POV
•found family, reluctant allies, slow burn romance
And of course some of my favorite quotes, which was super hard to narrow down, I'm pretty sure I tabbed the entire book. 😅
⚔️"Fierceness and bravery do not always have to come in the form of blades and armor, and boldness does not always have to come in fiery retorts and flares of anger. Strength is shown in many ways."
⚔️"And you, Daria, are that light. One that brings warmth and healing. Your heart is pure, princess. Do not let anyone or anything take that away from you. Not even me.”
⚔️"You are surviving in chaos. You could've let it destroy you, but here you are, being made from the ashes."

This book was AMAZING. It started out a little slow but that was due to all of the world building and character development. This story is full of all the ingredients necessary for an emotional, exciting, angsty Fantasy Romance.
This books did not hold back. You have Elves, Vampires, Gods, different Realms and the mention of; wait for it.......Dragons. This book allows readers to escape into the adventures of Zara and her sister Daria who are both on separate missions and faced with their own demons while they embark on their own paths riddled with treachery and deceit.
Expect to Find:
Rich World Building
Political Intrigue
Waring Kingdoms
Witty Banter
Spice
Enemies to Lovers
Epic Battles
Heartache
Betrayal
Angst
Tension
Drama
The ending of this book was gut wrenching and the Cliffhanger will have you ready to throw hands. Therefore; I need book 2 NOW!!! Not months from now but

I got this as an ARC and First off I really need to express just how much I loved this book. This book is 100% going to be one of my top reads of 2024. Hands down. The story, the plot, the romance, the relationships; They were wholesome in a world where it was nothing but dread and heartbreak.
To get to why I loved Fall of The Horizon:
I do tend to read the tropes beforehand because I know what I enjoy and this one was riddled with my favorites. That being said, they weren’t thrown in there for the sake of having tropes. They were truly written and woven into the story and they were IMPORTANT to each characters plot. This is why I enjoyed it SO MUCH. I love a good tropey book, but when it’s done with intention, it just makes it that much better.

• Slow Burn ❤️

Book was okay. I was really hopeful I would like up until I reached the 50% mark. I think the book could be condensed more considering that 50% to 75% part of the book felt repetitive. The story became stagnant and only picked up its pace around the end of the book.
5 stars. Spoiler free - I really enjoyed the story line in this book and the world that was created. I never felt bored or wanted to rush which is always a good sign. Loved the romances !
