I didn't want to put this down after the first few chapters. An utterly mesmerizing dark romance, with gripping tension throughout and a fascinating magic system in a great world - perfect!

The characters are so well developed, I just want to learn more about them. Saeris, Fisher, Ren and even Carrion won me over! The ending was a real surprise- i cannot wait for book 2!

4.5⭐️
3.5/5🌶

Kingfisher has officially breached the ranks of my top 5 shadow daddies. The way he would burn the world for her, or give her the match if she wanted to do it herself is wonderful.

This book has it all:
Plot & Action ✅️
Romance / Spice / Banter ✅️
Humor in the form of great characters ✅️

The plot twists that kept coming the last 100 pages had me holding onto my chair. The enemies to Lovers trope is written well, but once it sparks, it completely ignites from 0-100. I love the world in this and how Callie I produces other characters of lore, too.

Overall, great read! Idk why I waited so long to read it! Can't wait for book 2!

okay, yes i’m giving this 5 stars because i fuckin loved it. were there issues with the writing? absolutely. did i have a hell of a time, though? fuck yeah i did. i mean, kingfisher could get it.
there were definitely some logistical issues with the writing. why the hell did saeris spend such a lengthy amount of time mixing random shit with silver instead of idk using her magic??!! how the hell did kingfisher use his magic in the vampire kingdom when they supposedly don’t have access to magic there? AND THEN THE MENTION OF CLIFFNOTES?!?!
other than that, i had a damn good time and have no regrets rating this 5 stars just because my enjoyment level was that high. if you read this book, just don’t take it to seriously and you’ll like it lol

I really enjoyed the banter between the two main characters. Sassy and witty! I live for banter and taking shots at each other.  Kingfisher was more of a feral MMC than I am used to reading but I was here for it.

Character building was great, even for side c haracters. I really appreciated that; i especially enjoyed the twist that was revealed for a side character.

I loved the idea of quicksilver in general and the whole world building around it. Really hoping for more information about it in the following book along with information about Alchemy in general.

There were some slow moments in the middle of the book, but by then I was hooked. I liked the book well enough to want to pick up the audiobook and give that a try.

What do you rate a book that was 2 stars for the first ~400 pages and 5 stars for the last ~200+ pages? I am going with a 3.5⭐️ rating.

Still can’t fully tell if the first ~400 pages were truly insanely slow and annoying, or if I was just in a bad mood. Either way, the last ~200+ pages were amazing. Didn’t think I would be interested in reading the second book, but after that ending I am going to have to.

Great example that the addition of vampires always makes a book better.

.... My first real toe into romantasy and holy shit.

This is like the Fallout New Vegas of novels.

Definitely an adult fantasy but I wouldn't rate it super high on spice because it only happens a couple times but the yearning and thirsting is S tier.

I loved the cast of characters so much it honestly felt like any one of them could have been/is actually the main character if you just pivot a little.
