Another read from Kate Clayborn that I simply couldn't put down! This isn't your typical contemporary rom-com - while it hits the high points you expect and hope for in a romance (happy endings, an beautiful emotional arc with the characters, lots of sweet chemistry) it's so much more than that too. The driving force behind the plot, the podcast and finding Jess and Tegan's mother, is so well thought out and compelling and stands on its own as an incredible story. Jess and Adam are fully formed, flawed, and beautiful characters and watching their love grow and evolve was a highpoint, but Tegan and Salem are equally interesting characters with their own arcs and you'll find yourself rooting for all four of them throughout the story. It was a satisfying read from beginning to end and is a story that I'd recommend to anyone who appreciates both poignant lovestories as well as a fast paced novel that keeps you on your toes. Thank you so much to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the ARC!

I do not recommend this book. Liked the premise of the podcast and finding the mother. Hated the love story. It was instalove (new word for me) and it was not believable.

SO. MANY. FEELINGS.

I just wanna put it out in the universe that I keep finding and reading love stories like these, ones which are so beautiful I can't even describe. I feel like I could write a 10 page fanfiction around Adam right this minute because damn that man is LAYERED. Aaaaaaand sensitive, and romantic, and gorgeous, and sweet, and shy, so adorably cute (Plus the height, looks, and the physique of a football athlete is a generous plus ;D). Jess, the ever guarded and even more protective of the lot, was a joy to get to know over the course of the story. You saw her grow into herself and it felt like rediscovering and healing so many of your own insecurities through her. Refreshing and beautifully put together to say the least.

The emotional trauma of a sibling who grows up too fast, the quiet love between two sisters, the bond that grows between two strangers who were almost fated to be together, and most importantly, the way a person finds themself after they lose themselves. All of these themes speak to such a gorgeous story. Every character had substance, and each had their own journeys to take. It's times like these that I really appreciate the power of storytelling and the beauty of love stories. It reaffirms me into thinking that love stories are so much deeper and way more connected to our lives and our circumstances than we would think to assume. And that's why I can't wait to pick up another one of Kate Clayborn's books ASAP <3.

The Other Side Of Disappearing is a story about what we do for the people we love, the lengths we will go to, and the mistakes we make along away.

Kate Clayborn has a way of crafting characters with a sense not just of care, but of carefulness, that sets her apart as an author. Jess and Adam are both prime examples of this - subtly and precisely written, both people with reserved, cautious demeanors, but rich interior lives, driven to action by the people they care about. Their chemistry is top notch; their initial, tentative interactions are perfectly choreographed. The tenderness with which Adam regards Jess is particularly moving. The same can be said for Jess’s interactions with Tegan.

You don’t have to be a fan of true crime podcasts to enjoy the Lynton Baltimore aspects of the plot - yes, the podcast is the driving force that pulls Jess, Adam, Salem, and Tegan together - but the interpersonal dynamics between the four of them are the focus of the story.

Truly, this is a beautiful, well-written story. Kate Clayborn gets better with every book, and this one is no exception. Looking forward to her future work.
