Entertaining. I like the characters, sister dynamics, and podcast angle. Nice mental health acknowledgement. Enough mystery to find out what happened with the mom to keep you interested.

I enjoyed the blended genres of this book. I find it so much more fun and interesting when books include podcasts or other forms of digital media. I liked all of the characters and the personal development. The romance and sister's relationship were both great story-lines. I would like to read more by this author!

The love story combined with mystery didn’t really work. The love at first sight trope felt like a cop out vs developing that storyline. The mystery fizzled out.

Thank you to Kensington Books and Netgalley for an ARC of this book! I’ve willingly read and reviewed it. All opinions are my own.

I have been anxiously anticipating THE OTHER SIDE OF DISAPPEARING since I knew of its existence and I’m happy to report that not only does it contain one of my newest book boyfriends, but the book is full of complicated emotions and enviable relationships.

Jess is shocked when, upon running home to grab something she forgot, she opens the door to a giant, handsome man and his much smaller boss who are on her doorstep, prepared to record Jess’s account of her mother’s second disappearance from her life, this time with a notorious con man.

Without going into too much detail, Jess soon finds herself on a road trip with the younger sister she took guardianship of when her mother left, a famous podcaster, and an ex-college football player with a history of going viral on the Internet, trying to find the woman who has vanished from their lives.

THE OTHER SIDE OF DISAPPEARING is a romance novel interwoven with a compelling mystery. A lot of times it’s difficult to believe in a scenario where the two halves of a couple are instantly drawn together, but the immediate connection between Jess and Adam was written in a way that had me forgetting how little time these two characters had spent together before falling in love. I was constantly hoping for these two to figure things out as they navigated so many ups and downs throughout the journey to find Jess’s mom.

The romance, however, is only one part of this incredible story. Kate Clayborn really explores the effects abandonment has on the relationships and lives of the people left behind, whether to follow a con man to locations unknown or out of desperation for a little relief.

This is a book I’ll be thinking about for a long, long time.

It took me a minute to sink my teeth into this book, but once I did, I was hooked. The complex characters. The beauty of the hurt, the pain, the hard lessons learned… and most importantly, the love. All wrapped up into one captivating book.

Okay... Jess at the beginning of this book was so annoying. I didn't know if I would be able to finish the book. But Adam's chapters kept me in. I started to warm to Jess about halfway through. I loved the storyline, the pace of the story, and all of the characters (even Jess at the end). Their mom is wild and she deserves to be alone. The epilogue gave me LIFE. I love a good, happy ending.

Sometimes disappearing isn't about going from point A to point B and going into hiding, as was the case with Charlotte Caulfield. Sometimes it's about shrinking yourself down, tucking all the parts of you that make you you away and putting on a mask in order to fit into a mold of a new role because life has thrown you a curveball. Like your mother running off with a con man and leaving you to raise your eight-year-old sister as was the case with Jess Greene.

However, if you're really lucky, you'll meet someone who won't let you disappear, who will coax out those smiles and glimpses of who you could've been and who you would be if you felt you had the freedom to love and let someone love you. Luckily for Jess, Adam Hawkins is such a person.

This was an interesting one for me with the mystery element of what happened to Jess and Teagan's mother and the romance between Jess and Adam. Plus the added element of Adam's motivation for being there in the first place and how things shift for him as he gets to know Jess.
