This was one of the most frustrating books I’ve read in a long time. First of all, getting stranded on a boat at sea and facing imminent death is SO stressful. The first 70% of this book reads more like a thriller and it was not what I was wanting. Second, without giving too much away, the miscommunication in the last 30% made me want to scream. I just don’t believe the characters wouldn’t have had ONE single conversation that could have cleared things up. I really enjoyed the character of Zeke though, and the personal journey he goes through over the course of the book.

Lexi and Zeke end up having probably THE most memorable one night stand possible yet despite the peril of being in open sea on a riverboat, this story is more about emotional bravery and figuring out what really matters in the world.
I really loved the characters, especially Eugene the seagull. This has all the hallmarks of a classic Beth O'Leary story that will wrap around you like a warm hug.

I really wanted to love this one, but even from the outset I didn’t have much confidence - the synopsis didn’t excite me the same as Beth O’Learys other books so I guess I didn’t dive in head-first like I did the others.
I felt like the fact that so much time was spent on the houseboat, floating in the North Sea, made it feel incredibly slow at times. Naturally, the story had to be incredibly character driven and for me this didn’t land as well as I’d hoped.
Overall, I still can’t deny how easy it was to read and that I genuinely did enjoy it - but wanted to see way more intensity, depth and scenarios play out more.
The twist about Zeke being the father of Mae was unexpected, and even weirder that Lexi ended up pregnant at the end of it… so a 23 y/o had two kids from two best friends in their 30s…

Loved this! Such a fun read and can't believe the whole book was just two people stuck on a boat with no flashbacks. That's some impressive storytelling. Loved the epilogue at the end. Did not love the twist (spat my drink across the room the moment I figured it out) I thought it was a low blow...and I ended up really not liking Penny - she was a shitty best friend. But I guess it did tie everything up nicely sooo maybe it wasn't that bad?
