lol for a first book of a series this was a ride haha. The audiobook was pretty good Lance West did a decent job with the characters, i will say the bat voice haha i almost spit my water out when i heard it for the first time hahah!

The writing and the adventures that Octavius and Turney went on kept me engaged for the whole book, it was hard to put down.

I am excited to see where the rest of the series goes, and hopefully book two comes out soon!

Adorable!

I saw this recommended in a book group and am glad I picked it up. I’m not sure I’ve ever read a book with such a childlike, adorable vampire (who turns into a bat… and the bat drawings at the start of each chapter are SO cute!). There was lots of action and a bit of romance to boot, and it made me giggle more than once.

It doesn’t get a full five stars because it was a little rough from an editing perspective. It had some typos, misplaced punctuation, and sentences that just didn’t flow well. Still, I feel this was absolutely worth reading just for the cute vampire bat.

This is one of those books that is just so much fun you get sucked in and cannot stop until you are done. It's a great cast of quirky characters that I cannot wait to get to know more of!

I really loved the beginning of this series. Octavius was so so cute but also caring and scared sometimes. I love that we could see the way he started caring for Turney gradually (from friends to maybe something more). I could not say the same of Turney who just seemed to find Octavious sexy or cute (as a bat). But that started changing after the first half of the book. Turney had the biggest characterization during the first half of the book and then it faded a little. Which is a shame. As for Octavius, there is a feel of mystery for him and his turning, and also seemingly huge trauma. And I am here for all the hurt/comfort I can get!

This book shows promise but has noticeable flaws, I view this book as a promising but flawed pilot episode of a series, written by a relatively new author still finding their footing. While the story and world have potential, there are noticeable bumps and shortcomings. The author shows promise in many areas, but there are also issues with editing quality and some character aspects. The world-building in the paranormal aspect is intriguing, offering a mix of familiar elements and unique perspectives. But the main protagonist's personality is erratic, creating an inconsistent portrayal that oscillates between maturity and immaturity and at times really takes you out of the story.
Overall, while the book has its flaws, it shows potential and an engaging concept.

This had to be the longest, most insane, mind-blowing day he had ever had. Turney felt both emotionally and physically drained.

Vampires, zombies, Gods, wendigos, and reapers. Turney checked his watch—4:26—six hours ago he hadn’t even known any of them actually existed. Now, here he was, helping a vampire—who had a zombie for a secretary—capture human-eating wendigos, so they could be given to some random God-created reapers for punishment.

Overall this was a fun first book—although at times I struggled with the pacing—and I look forward to continuing the series.

Quirky fun!!!

I love unique and quirky characters and this story has them in spades!!!

I really enjoyed Shelby take on paranormal creatures, vampires and the undead and add in so many moments of hilarity this story was a riot!!

Octavios is gold and adorable as a bat!! Turney is the "token human" but he's adaptable and I look forward to seeing where he'll go next or what might happen to him...

I look forward to many more chaotic adventures with these colourful characters!!!

So this started off so good, really funny and ridiculous. Then it kinda went downhill from there.

*****Spoilers below*****

"Well, you eat brains. What do you know?"
"I can also eat delicious sweets, unlike someone I know."
He dramatically grasped at his chest, his mostly unbeating heart under his palm "How could you?!"
Octavius' despair at never being able to taste, to savor solid sweets again, hit him like... well, much like that truck had hit him the last time he had driven. He still had hot chocolate, but it wasn't the same!”"

Our main character Octavius, which is a 2000+ year old vamp, acted like more of a child than the other main character, who is a human at the age of 25.

The zombie secretary/BFF was so interesting but we nearly saw her.

What was the point of introducing a tech guy if you didn't use him other than that 1 chapter?

And of course let us not forget how the human (who's name I forgot, sorry) got so hurt he almost died, just for him to have sexy times with Octavius the second he wakes up? cause that makes sense.
