A buddy read with @iman
Such a strong beginning tho, like the whole thing intrigued me but then it died down in the middle.
If you like a cute vampire detective who accept bts photocards as payments with his human driver then this book is for you.
The jokes in here felt too forced and the way octavius character was written makes feel a bit unease, he acts like a literar toddler sometimes it confuses me.
His personality is basically sweets, oblivious, himbo, an army, and pouts lots of pouting.
The romance didn't help at all
I don't feel the connection between these two mcs, hell the romance was barely there in the first place.

Pros:
Octavius is adorable, there are funny moments, good use of one side character, the MCs aren't just immediately in love/lust with each other and the development of feelings felt real, and the bat drawings at each chapter are just precious.
Cons:
The use of "the male" as a descriptive word so very often instead of he, they, man, Octavius, and Turney was annoying. The writing wasn't always well polished and dialog didn't seem natural. The plot wasn't super exciting, but wasn't entirely boring either.
Anyway, make your own choice on this one (obviously), but I won't read the rest of the series. I did like the goofy, child-like super old vampire, but everything else wasn't enough to keep me interested.

It was LABORIOUS since I kept falling asleep: it was indeed bland/boring and the writing sometimes juvenile. It was also amazing how I literally had no recollection of the story and how much I hated the use of the terms "the male". The writer didn't want to use the term "man"-fine!-but there were other words that could have been used instead! Every time I heard "the male", I thought "This is my villain origin's story!"

The narrator was great... The story not that much. It was kind of bland and boring (like I fell asleep at one point!). The writing also felt a bit juvenile sometimes, like I couldn't believe the characters were adults nor how many times the situation/behaviour was ridiculous. And not in a ridiculous kind à la Alice Winters where things can be ridiculous but extremely funny and endearing. Here it was somewhat embarrassing.
In short, it was a forgettable read and I might listen to the 2nd book if I have nothing else to read at that time and/or my curiousity gets the better of me.
