Okay, so, in my reviews of books 1 & 2, I complained about tone whiplash and having to give too many content warnings on books that are supposed to be cozy and light, but contain surprise dark content.
The good news about book 3 is, the tone whiplash problem is solved. However, it's solved by leaning completely into dark tone with very little cozy left. It's a gripping read, but not quite what I thought I was signing up for when I started the series. Annika's pregnancy may have been intended as a positive subplot to lighten the mood, but if so, it didn't work for me. An accidental pregnancy for someone who never wanted to be a parent? Personal nightmare.
There's plenty of fantasy about war already, and I didn't really need another fantasy battle. Or so I thought...I must admit the climax is pretty clever in the smart ways that Kraken defeats the villain's familiar, and Fin figures out how his house witch powers can defeat a fire witch.

Beautiful series! Wonderful and whimsical and all around hilarious. I would recommend this series to anyone that loves fantasy.
I would give this one million stars if I could. This was the most perfect cozy story while still maintaining an interesting plot. I don’t think I’ve laughed out loud while reading as much as I did with this book. I loved it so so so much. UGH I loved it.
This trilogy was so delightful and cozy. I plowed through the first two and was desperate for the third. While there are elements of war and the stress for characters that comes of that, I will be putting this on my comfort read list.
I don’t want to give spoilers but when I tell you I cried and had to take a break to process. I can’t recommend this series enough. The characters are deep and relatable. You won’t go wrong.
