**This is for the audiobook version of the title***
The narrator does another splendid job slipping into the voices and characters, although there was a change for Kracken’s voice from the first book that took some getting used to.
The third book in the House Witch series is a nice wrap up to the trilogy. The characters are more fleshed out and grow throughout the book while still staying true to their inherent nature.
With war imminent, a manipulative magical father, and his burgeoning relationship with Annika, Finn has to learn to navigate a whole new life while also coming to grips with both his own magic and his growing political position. He does this with the same warm style exhibited in previous books but has to contend with much higher stakes.
The writing in this installment was tighter, cleaner, and the pacing was better than in the first two books. The reader still gets to enjoy the company of Finn’s found family while the long anticipated hostilities with Troivak come to a head adding some heavier stakes to the adventure.

I really loved this trilogy. The third book was a bit more cozy than the second. Really enjoyed the third book. All the warm feelings with a good plot.
I will mourn this series. What started so charmingly placid morphed into a complex, magnificent exploration of an otherworld. I wouldn’t change a thing, not even the imperfectly human writing- which I felt was befitting of such an adventure. It was easily forgotten as I fell into the depth of Fin’s life, the unique natures of his companions, and the emotions that this series forcefully evoked. I laughed aloud and I wept… twice. I am honestly stunned. This third book was far more tragic and foreboding than the former two, but not in vain. Although I want so much more, the ending was everything I could have asked for. One of the best fantasy series I’ve read in a long time. Son of a mage, I wish I could go back and read it all for the first time again.

I greatly enjoyed this series overall. Fin was a loveable protagonist and had such great character growth over the three books. I wish we could have had more Kraken chapters, or maybe an epilogue of his adventures. I’ll likely read the other books by the author as I’ve grown fond of these characters. Also, I’m so glad the author toned down “the redhead” in this one!
4.5
I didn't enjoy this book as much as 1 or 2, but did like how big of a part Kraken played in this story.
