This was one helluva ride! Thanks Farah @mama for the buddy read on this.
Look, I’m not going to sugar coat it, this was quite graphic in parts, to the point I had to put it down and breath. It was a tough but fabulous read. Dark, disturbing, suspenseful and fast paced. Short chapters kept me hooked and wanting to keep reading on. The true essence of a psychological thriller.
It’s a story of children being abducted, forced to live in a basement and made to dress and perform as dolls by their captor. Full synopsis on next page and I don’t want to give away any spoilers. I felt (darker) Flowers in the Attic vibes. The twists … Sara Ennis mastered them in this, her debut novel.
This won’t be for everyone, especially as it revolves around children and some harrowing situations.
This is my first by author Sara Ennis and will definitely not be my last!
CW- graphic death scene description, child abduction, torture, mental health warning
Thanks to @netgally and @sara for this advanced reading copy, much appreciated

The Dollhouse is a really dark and disturbing read. I found it to be a bit more of a horror at times than a psychological thriller. This was a book that I was seeing all over the place and I had to see what the all the fuss was about. So glad that I did.
I read alot of thrillers, and alot of books with pretty dark themes. The Dollhouse sounded right up my alley and it was. The story of kidnapped teenagers, twins Angel and Bud who are taken from their home while their mother is away. They arrive at The Dollhouse and meet Olivia who has been there for quite some time. Their captor, Alfred is a sick and messed up individual who likes to play games with his 'dolls'
I can see that this book won't be for everyone, but if you like a twisted book that will keep you turning those pages then grab The Dollhouse. Looking forward to the next book in December

Thank you to Book Sirens and Sara Ennis for my ARC of the Dollhouse and am leaving an honest review!
This was 100% a bookstagram made me do it. I have seen this duality all over insta and I am a thriller junkie and knew I needed to give this one a try and I am glad I did. I already can't wait to read the second one!
let's get some triggers out of the way: child abductions, abuse, bullying, child torture, suicide, emotional, mental, and physical abuse
I am a cover reader, and a lot of times I pick up books by just reading the title and looking at the cover, and this one was no different. Then I read the blurb about the book and knew I needed to read it.
You think awe this will be about some creepy dolls, like Anabelle type dolls, killing or haunting people, but boy is than a total inaccurate thought. This was humans being used as a grow man's dolls living in a real life "dollhouse" and man was creepy and disturbing. I got so many saw vibes. It was like a real-life escape room with SAW challenges mixed in. The More I read, the more disturbing the book gets, and you think…..uhhhhh what am I reading. As a lover of psychological thrillers, few have made me queasy or plain sickened, but this one did.
Sara Ennis did a wonderful job of world building and drawing the reader into what was happening. I totally didn't expect the twist near the end. I was in a state of illusion just like the "dolls".
This book is told from multiple POV's, and we get inside the heads of all the characters. I know multiple POV books are an acquired taste for some but I love them. I loved that we saw the same situation from each major character, it added such depth to the story and made it more intense.
cant wait to dive into the second one!

If you like a very dark, disturbing, creepy and suspenseful book - then this one is right up your alley.
I'm not sure what I was thinking when I picked this book to read off of NetGalley. Well, I do know - I saw great reviews of it and people were talking about it so I was interested. This is off the beaten path for me. I enjoy thrillers, but this level of abuse and trauma was a lot for me. I still was engaged throughout - I just had a stomach ache throughout too.
Blonde kids are getting stolen and brought to a "dollhouse" so that a very disturbed individual can reenact childhood memories and in the process, try to change the narrative, and feel like he is getting revenge. Unfortunately he came from a background of bullying and childhood trauma that has formed him into a multiple-personality mess. His story is definitely tragic, but I wish there was just a little more about his backstory. Told in different POVs, we glance at his childhood, but the details are never really shared.
I always enjoy when the author gets me to love some of the characters, and hate others. I found that in this book. Overall I thought this book was suspenseful, twisty and surprising. I thought the ending succeeded in making the reader interested in picking up the second book to see more of that character and his or her trajectory.

This is an ultra dark and disturbing story about three children held captive by a man who sees them as dolls in his dollhouse. The dolls are to be displayed and played with and put back away night. Right from the start, I was hooked.
Unfortunately, by the halfway part, I started to lose track of the large ensemble of characters. We spend the majority of the first half of the book inside the head of Angel, one of the victims in the dollhouse. But in the second half, we are introduced to people and events taking place outside of the dollhouse. I unable to keep track of who was who and didn’t feel attached or invested in their story lines at all. Unfortunately it just didn’t work for me.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Dollhouse

What in the world I don't have too many words for this. I couldn't put it down but I also cried and screamed and wanted to stop reading but it was so good. The writing and suspense of it all. I read the second book first not knowing it was the second, so I knew kind of what had happened to Angel but my goodness. Angel is an angel and she is just such an amazing character. I can't wait to read the third one.

Ok.Wow. The Dollhouse I think has been the most mind blowing psychological thriller that I have read in a long time. I couldn’t put this book down. It will full of terror and had me gripped from the get go, I had to keep saying “Just one more chapter”. These kids bonded like no other, even though they didn’t have a choice, this was an experience that they would never come back from. I felt intense emotions while reading this book, one minute I’d be celebrating what was a little win for the “Dolls” and the next minute I’m reading the horror that they were going through whilst they were being “punished”. If you love psychological thrillers, then you will love this one!

I must say, wow. This is a very well written psychological thriller. I enjoyed the characters and felt connected to them, even if I wasn't a fan of them. This book reminds me of something that would be on the show Criminal Minds, but without the heavy police part and was more about the victims and perpetrator. This is a must read, and I'm definitely interested to read the next novel!
