This was a dark and disturbing tale that unfolds around the abduction of young teenagers in various states across the US.
14-year-old Angel and her twin brother Bud are kidnapped from their home after their unstable mother goes off for the weekend with her boyfriend, leaving them unattended. They wake up in the basement of a house and soon discover they are the prisoners of a psychopath. But they are not alone with their abductor. There is also a young girl who has been missing for over a year.
Her father Peter, a retired journalist, has been looking for her ever since and when the twins go missing he finally discovers a solid lead.
I loved Peter and his search for the truth and how relentless he was in helping other parents who were going through the same nightmare.
The basement scenes were really creepy and disturbing and I was relieved when the next chapter focused on something else ...
I wasn't very impressed with the writing and I think this is one of those books that could have really benefited from a thorough edit.
The chapters were short and concise and each one was dated, which gave you a sense of the time that had passed in the basement. But there were some inconsistencies with the dates that I attributed to the copy being an uncorrected proof ....
There’s also a great twist, which I enjoyed, although I saw it coming.
If you loved Last Thing to Burn and Flowers in the Attic you might want to pick this up!

This book has multiple character POV’s but is done in third person.
Honestly, I was incredibly nervous, because I had started a book with a similar title and synopsis and it very quickly became a DNF for me – in fact, I only managed to get 6% into the book before giving it up.
This book, however, was well executed. I am so thankful for that!
We meet a lot of characters along the way, and some definitely aren’t who you think they are – again, something done well by the author.
Honestly, I have to give this five feathers, because I couldn’t put it down once I started, and because it did what the other book couldn’t.
One thing I would like to mention, is that there are definitely some errors within the book. Extra words (in one spot “the the” is left in this copy) and minor grammatical oversights. It didn’t stop me from enjoying the book, though. I hope these were fixed before release!

Wow, what a wild ride! I went into this not exactly sure what to expect and it did not disappoint! Picture this, a man named Alfred abducts children in order to "re-create" photos of his own twisted childhood abuse. Nothing could possibly go wrong... right?
What I loved:
- It felt suspenseful throughout the entire novel
- I felt so many raw emotions
- It was dark and twisted!!
- Character development
- It felt so original
What I didn't love:
- There was a few typos that I noticed
Sara is a phenomenal writer and I was able to visualize everything quite well. The novel starts off strong and doesn't let you go until you finish reading. I felt whole-heartedly invested into the lives of these children as we read on about the terrors that happen within the dollhouse. The story alone is so incredibly gripping, but the way you invest into these characters stays with you even after you've finished reading.
I did not see that twist in the end and I was left pleasantly surprised. I thought Sara did a great job leading the reader into seeing what she was laying out, but in a very clever way that didn't tip me off too much.
It has been a while since a book left me with a "hangover" and this one will absolutely stay with me for a long time. I cannot wait to see what Sara puts out next!!

Whoa! What a mind blowing psychological thriller this book was. First I was in fear for the young characters. Why you ask? Well I will tell you.
We all know what transpires in these deep intense books. The writer had me by the collar shaking me wildly as she feed me each sentence that took plight in my imagination. I was here. I was there! I was hopeful.
Then I was thrown in diaper as I trudged along with the young characters as they battled the inhumanity of it all. Needless to say readers, but I will any way. This was a brilliant book. I normally don’t read books with journalists perspective, however I was hooked with Peter’s studios accounts in the book. I loved everything about the book.
Until next time my fellow readers. Read on!

The premise was intriguing and it was at some points an unsettling read, but in the end it didn’t quite live op to my expectations. The big twist was predictable. The chapters about one character’s point of view were in my opinion unnecessary. And the ending fell flat for me.
