Boy am I struggling with this review…I think I’m still digesting…this was a lot. I really wanted to love it, but it was just okay for me.

The Dollhouse had a strong premise, which kept me invested, but it also felt slow and drawn out at times, despite the many moving parts. The large cast of characters tended to muddle the storyline and I think I could’ve done without some of them.

I knew this would be a dark, disturbing read going into it, but still found myself cringing at times—the torture scenes were a bit much and at times the kids almost didn’t seem effected enough (psychologically) by what they were going through (I say that as a mother of teens the same age). I don’t know how to explain it other than to say something felt off with their characters—maybe the dialogue or just their reactions in general were unnatural.

This kind of felt more like a messed up version of YA horror (is that even a thing?) than a psychological thriller to me.

No emotion whatsoever in this book.

I honestly can’t do a review to even give this book the justice it deserves. It is a dark, twisted book that will grip you from the first chapter to the very last word. In my lifetime, I have never had a book give me an adrenaline rush like this one did. It will forever live in my mind rent free. On that note..this book contains:

-Chapter cliff hangers, that will not let you put the book down.
-Characters that are unforgettable and make you emotionally drawn to them with no effort
-Jaw dropping plot twist. Few may catch, but I did not.
-GREAT buddy read candidate if you want to have extensive discussion material

The Dollhouse by Sara Ennis
I give this book 4.5 stars

Alfred needs dolls that will help him rewrite his past and change his future.
3 are now captives in a place called the Dollhouse. They are forced to re-stage old photographs, but satisfying Alfred is not easy……..
And there aren’t many photos left!

This brilliant psychological thriller is creepy, twisted and more than a little bit disturbing. The well written plot and memorable characters held my attention from the beginning and had me on the edge of my seat, feeling a gauntlet of emotions..l was totally invested in Angel and equally disgusted with Alfred.l particularly loved the way the Police investigation was kept as a smaller portion so all the attention and focus was on the horror of what was going on.
Book 2 is coming out shortly and l cannot wait!!!
With thanks to Netgalley and Sara Ennis for my chance to read and review this book

Enjoyed this throughout, however it was brought down to a 4 ⭐️ instead of 5 as near the end of the book, the dates completely don’t add up. There was mention of an event happening on the 15th December in the story, but the beginning of the chapter of that event was the 27th December. And a birthday was said to be June but then later on became September.
The main plot twist completely surprised me, I don’t know why I hadn’t event suspected it - however I don’t love the negative connotations that they his brings.

I thought this was a horror movie with gruesome and disturbing description of things. Well, I was right with the gruesome and disturbing part. I loved how the story goes. It was sad but what I loved about the author was how she doesn't give a d*mn what I would feel and doesn't give me the happy ending I expected. It crushed me how it ended but it gave the story life and meaning.

While a bit long-winded and part of a twist guessed, you felt for the victims and their families. There were 2 name inconsistencies (last names of 2 people) but no major flaws aside from that. Absolutely heartbreaking.
