So first of all I feel like I have to say this was really well written and compelling. I couldn’t bring myself to DNF even though I knew I should because I needed an HEA resolution  after all the trauma.  I just think that Skye Warren’s brand of dark romance is not for me.

I have enough childhood instilled damage that it’s not healthy for me to be inside the mind of a main character whose head is still very much in that trauma space. So this is me encouraging everyone to check content warnings before diving in.

Blue and Lola's story was so good. They met in the foster system years ago and now they meet again at the Grand.
Their relationship is erotic and full of anger from the past.
Great book!

I'm not sure what to think about this book. I kept turning the pages, so there's that:) I think what really kinda bugged me was Blue was harsh and almost cruel to Lola during certain scenes (and she hated and loved it all at once). And that's not what bugged me, that was fine for where the story was going. What kinda threw me off was all of a sudden, he flips a switch and isn't cruel to her. He realizes why she did what she did five years ago (without her really saying it). It was too fast for me. It wasn't a gradual thing. But, overall, I enjoyed this story.

Kindle freebie. Well, I've done it, folks. I read my first dark erotica romance... thing. And also my last. 10/10 for fucked up characters and thinly veiled non-consensual sex. No, a woman getting wet is not consent. No, her 'owing you' for something she did when she was a teenager isn't a pass for you to treat her like crap.

The rough sex is very rough and very degrading (at one point the love interest spits in the heroine's mouth during sex. so. yeah). Not my kink, but okay, if that's what you're here for, you won't be disappointed. I actually found the 'he's angry and terrifying the heroine which means he must love her' angle a lot more troubling.

Lola/Hannah, the protagonist, grew up abused and is clearly traumatized. She uses sex and her body as currency and thinks of the men she sleeps with as them using her in exchange for protection. She's been conditioned to think of herself as a sex object and she's frequently putting herself down in her internal monologue. I would've expected the love interest (adorably named Blue
