I LOVED this book! It held my attention from the beginning and had great character arcs and storytelling. I loved the mix of The Breakfast Club, Gossip Girl, and various other cult classics. The end was a SHOCKING TWIST, but definitely fit into the story line. Can’t wait for the sequel!

3 stars. After 3 non-fiction books in a row, I was ready for some fluff, which probably helped my opinion of this one. The stereotypical tropes took away a bit from the characters as anything but a stereotype and while the book is leveled as YA, these high schoolers seem to have an awful lot of freedom & privilege as 17yr olds. [SPOiLER ALERT] I have a bit of an axe to grind with the title here since it's technically misleading. I recently read a thriller that kept me guessing throughout about who the killer was and at times, it felt like each character, while at others, none seemed viable. This book though, it never seemed like it was ever one of them, so I had a hard time "playing along" with the mystery knowing it was going to be revealed in some big twist at the end. I also really could've done without the Addy assault -- at that point in the storyline, I didn't need a graphic scene and it didn't fit with the villain's character to date. The epilogue was, as expected, a little too neatly tied for me, so that I kind of closed the book with an eyeroll. I see there's a sequel, but I'm not sure I'll pick it up.

this. was. so. good... i’ve been wanting to read this for MONTHS now, but it never arrived, and i had to order it 3 times before it finally got delivered, because it kept getting lost in the mail and getting cancelled because it was sold out. however, i finally have it, so i finally got to read it, and it did NOT disappoint in the least. this was really good. i knew what it was going into it, so i knew i would like the basic plot of the book, but this was really well done. all characters, and all side characters were complex and interesting, and the way the novel progressed up to the climax was so intriguing and had me hooked up until the end. i really enjoyed the journey of all 4 characters, and liked how they developed. copper coming out and then progressing with his boyfriend and his identity and his family and baseball. addy gaining confidence after FINALLY moving on from jake, and finding her voice and personality. bronwyn helping others, finding her true passion and knowing her value outside of academics. AND nate also realizing his value and that he is worth it and can be loved. IT WAS JUST SO GOOD. at one point i had suspicions that it was simon all along and he committed suicide and planted all this. it was one of my updates on here, so i’ll check how far into the book it was, but i’m pretty sure it was earlier than half way. so i’m proud of that. but i really loved it. i’m glad it wasn’t any of the bayview four, and especially nate because i really liked them all. i’m also really glad that nate and bronwyn ended up together because i shipped them since the beginning and they are incredibly cute. anyway. this was a great novel and i really recommend this. super well written and developed and has you hooked throughout the whole story.

On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High end up in detention together. None of them are friends and they're all completely different from one another. Bronwyn is the smart girl, over-achiever and she never breaks a rule. Addy is the pretty girl and homecoming princess, and she has the hottest boyfriend at Bayview. Cooper is the athlete and an all-star pitcher. Nate is the criminal who is on probation for dealing drugs. And Simon is the social outcast and creator of Bayview High's notorious gossip app. Simon has posted some very juicy stuff on that app and has hurt a lot of people in the process. He never makes it out of that classroom alive. According to investigators Simon had planned to reveal something major about each of the four people in that classroom the day after he died. So those four students are suspects in his murder.

This was a compulsive read. It was well-written, suspenseful (who killed Simon?!) and had a diverse group of people who all had one thing in common - they have secrets. These characters have a lot of depth. We get a glimpse of them before Simon dies, but then we follow them from school to home to the police station and we see how scared they are, how they're trying to "be normal", we see their families. I thought this book was clever and I loved it!

This book was fun! A bit slow in places, but the concept was interesting and even though the characters stories felt closed, the theme was interesting enough to where I’ll likely read the sequels. Have no desire to see the show though lol
