A great book! I loved how it incorporated the characters and things we knew from the first series while also adding in new ideas and people. I didn’t see the twist at the end coming (either of them) and I loved Orion and Rosalind’s relationship.

I wasn’t as big a fan of Celia and Oliver’s relationship, maybe because they didn’t get as much page time, but I am a sucker for the fake married trope, and Orion and Rosalind were amazing. I also loved Alisa, the constant tension between the two sides and its people about putting their families before these causes, and how they can’t seem to unite in the face of a greater enemy. And Phoebe!! :o!! I did want a bit more of a dramatic reveal of Rosalind, and the fact that Orion has super strength seemed to come out of nowhere, but all in all, an excellent book!

3.5 stars rounded to 4! I didn't think that I'd enjoy a story that doesn't revolve around Roma and Juliette, but I was mistaken. Rosalind and Orion are cool too :)

I adored this book!
I loved getting to learn about the civil war in 1930s Shanghai and the Japanese Imperialist occupation. The spy mystery and espionage was really well written!
