I had a real rollercoaster of opinions with this book. I liked it because it explored the idea of humans taking over Morganville and becoming the ‘new vampires’. There was a creation of new dangerous creatures to fight the vampires and a new way to end vampirism? I loved the different ideas.

BUT I’m not convinced by this book. I feel like the last book in the series should have been a lot better than this. I took it slowly in hope that I could make it last and it would get better. The ideas weren’t bad, I just feel like they could have explored certain ideas more thoroughly which would’ve made it a more exciting book. The ideas seemed to jump around a lot and everything happened fairly quickly, which is another reason why it would’ve benefitted with fewer, more developed ideas.

Also, I think the book ended too quickly. All of the drama was over and then suddenly everyone was happy and the book ended. I think I would’ve preferred a more developed ending which would explain what would happen to Morganville or maybe what happened to the characters in the future? Maybe an extra chapter jumping into the future would’ve made this 4 stars instead of 3.

I loved this whole series and I will miss reading it. It is going straight on my re-read list for the future. Goodbye Morganville, goodbye Myrnin.

Soooooooo........

I’ve waited so long for the end and now the end is here and I’m gutted. It ended. No more Morganville no more vamps no more claire Shane Eve Micheal.

I read quiet a few reviews saying this book was slow and boring, I did worry a little that I would be disappointed. I wasn’t at all I really enjoyed it.

I’m not very good at writing reviews really but seriously this book didn’t disappoint. It ended fantastic.

Very lacklustre ending to the series.

The whole Daylight foundation stuff was clearly only in place to miraculously make Michael human again which I hated.

The earlier books just had a vibe to them that didn't carry through to the later books which is a shame.

Tidy finish to a messy series. That statement may sound worse than what I actually mean. We will come back to this, let's first start with this book, the final edition to the Morganville vampire series.

The book picks up right where the previous one left off. Our group has been split off and once believed friends are now cohorts of the "evil" Daylighters Foundation, queue evil laughter. The newest baddy is human (ish) and is all peace and love, right? Wrong! He wants to cure the world of vampirism and demolish all traces of what the vampires have built. This seems like a good idea until we realize that some of the most influential human Morganville residents have been coerced, turned into hellhounds and are at the Daylightera command. Michael is going to be "cured" and Shane is a werewolf/hellhound. Eve is being dramatic, Amelie has run away from Morganville and once again Claire is going to save the day with her huge brain and the crazy vampire's help. This storyline felt too similar to the draug for me with self righteous humans being traded in for water vampires. I guess story lines have to get bigger to be worth writing, but I would have preferred a more simplistic story revolving around the interpersonal relationships of our favorite characters. I feel like this books sole pup ores was to end the series tidily. Everyone ends up right where they should by the last period. I ended my read with no wonder about what happens next with these characters. I hate that kind of ending. I love when the author leaves you thirsting for a random tidbit rationed out once every five years. Where even after you have moved on from the genre you occasionally wonder, "what are those crazy characters up to?" I don't have that feeling after finishing this final read. Darn

Now back to my opening statement. From the first chapter of the first book, this bunch was messy and I loved it. My initial feelings as we we're introduced to Clare, Monica, Eve, Shane and Michael were all strong feelings because this was one messy bunch of young people. As the original story unfolded and additional characters were introduced with even a house as a character the tale got messier and messier. Can you say, "feed me more!" The romance, the drama, the attempted murder and actual killing, diseased vampires, water vampires, half ghosts, teleportation, crazy old ladies- more - More - MORE! Vampire hunters, ghost hunters, bikers with attitude, crazy vampire scientists, crazy sisters, crazy dads, crazy dead but live brain girlfriends. MORE! But then we fast forward to the final tale being the one most often told, that of vampire hunter/humans first against vampire (boring) and everything ended very happily ever after. Blah, blah, blah. I prefer my fairy tales Grimm.
