I know I can’t say something about Hemingway that hasn’t already been said, but here goes…
I understand the celebration of his work in two ways: 1. Historically and 2. Stylistically.
It must have been deeply moving to pick up something to read after WWI that people could relate to. The ebb and flow of their lives, the repetitive nature of said world, and have it was all lain out so simplistically in its depth.
I—though I couldn’t find true connections with any of the characters—still saw all this and understood its value. Is this something I’d reread? No. But is it something I’m glad I read, if only to understand its reputation? Yes.
Most impactful line: “Maybe if you found out how to live in it you learned from that what it was all about.” (Page 136)

Something about bull fighting, drinking and being drunk and a bunch of guys in love with the same skank. I think I've read technical documents more interesting than this novel. Hemingway, I am disappointed.

Great book! ‘book one’ was amazing the dialogue and quotes we’re so interesting and definitely spoke for the lost generation. The first part for ‘book two’ was very boring, its got some of the symbols and metaphors but overall it was hard to get through. The second part of ‘book two’ was great. It was definitely juicy since we met Pedro and more of Brett’s relationships started to fall apart (I really need a map of all her relationships or something). The third book was a good wrap up taking into account Jake’s downward spiral in ‘book two’. Overall a good book but a hard to get through at times.
Really a great book where nothing really happens. I can see where snobs would love it, and most others would not.
I’m somewhere in between.

This, The Bell Jar, and The Great Gatsby - I eat this kind of thing up.
