Disclaimer: I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Alright, first things first: I have decided to remove my star rating of this book. The primary reason is that this is SO outside my general reading preferences that it feels a little unfair to rate it poorly when I could have probably predicted that I wouldn't like it very much.

What I DID like: the basic premise is a lot of fun, and I love paranormal romance in concept, at least. The characters are all pretty well fleshed out, and each has their own stories going on--some of which, I can tell, will have their own stories in the future. The banter was charming!

What I DIDN'T like: the continuity was lacking. A lot of things felt like they were meant to be recurring--repeating multiple times in short succession--before being dropped completely. Other things were introduced near the end and then suddenly became an all-encompassing thing. Certain plot events kind of came or went without explanation, and the ending hinged entirely on like... one earlier scene that was not all that dwelt upon in the first place. In general, it didn't feel like story events had a lot of consequences, either, they just sort of... happened.

Also maybe it's because I am queer, but those sex scenes simply did not do it for me.

All in all, a fun and lighthearted romp. Maybe it's a book for others, but it just wasn't the book for me.

Fun, sweet witchy rom-com with the perfect amount of heat and spice. Really enjoy Rose and Damian’s story. Zura Johnson did an amazing job with the narration on the audiobook.

When Rose winds up doing community service at an animal sanctuary; she goes toe to toe with the half-demon veterinarian she previously had a romp with. Sparks fly, and while discovering herself and what she wants to do after stepping down as prima apparent; Rose and her vet can't resist each other even at the cost of a hex.
I enjoyed this book even more than the first, Rose and her family are slowly growing on me more and more; however, the writing and plot struggled to keep my attention. The book itself and characters are well-written but the humor and jokes often felt forced and unnecessary.

Fantastic sequel and super exciting to read. This book is an amazing rom-com with some of the best banter I’ve read in a long time, not only between the main characters but everyone involved in the story! Story also perfectly lays the groundwork for the next book, with sprinkle of what could potentially be a fourth book. Really great read!

This series is just deeply fun and I look forward to every new book and any spin off series that come from it.

Cute witchy romcom

2.5 Stars for me. I wanted to love this one, I usually really enjoy witchy reads, but it ended up being just an okay read for me. I think I might have enjoyed it more if I had read the first in the series; at times I felt a little lost with the characters. (I will add that they ended up referencing huge events that I think will entirely spoil the first book plot, so if you want to read the first book be sure to do that before picking up this one.)

I did like the characters and there were cute elements throughout the book, but the enemies-to-lovers and the "friends with benefits" tropes dragged on a bit too long, taking some of the fun out of the book.
emotional funny hopeful lighthearted

I found April Asher’s writing to charming in Not the Witch You Wed, so I was excited to fully lean into the Halloween Spirit and read Not Your Ex’s Hexes. It was so fun to revisit this world and follow Rose’s newly found freedom alongside Damian’s struggle to forge his own pathway and run from his father’s lifestyle. For a book that hinges on a “friends-with-benefits” arrangement, I didn’t find it to be overly spicy on page, but I did enjoy watching their “no emotions” agreement crumble as they opened up to each other more.

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced reader copy.

This book was absolutely entertaining!! Enjoyed it as much as the first!

Rose and Damian’s banter was so much fun to read. I do wish he wouldn’t call her Little Witch every two seconds. If it had been a drinking game, I’d be in the ER after the first 20% of the book.

This honestly felt like such a Buffy book to me (even gets mentioned) and I loved that so much.
