This is the 2nd book in the Supernatural Singles series by April Asher. I haven’t read the 1st book, Not the Witch You Wed, but it can definitely be read as a stand-alone. There is a lot of mention of the main characters from the 1st one so I’ll definitely be checking out that one soon.
It’s absolutely insane how spicy this read was and, more importantly, it was female-focused spice. There was also a lot of romance, action, and fantasy involved in the story as well. This is a perfect blend for romcom and fantasy readers. There’s also a little dictionary in the back for readers newer to the genre.
The plot is centered around witch Rose and half-demon Damian who become engaged in a friends with benefits arrangement. Now reading that you may think to expect that spice but I’m telling you it surpasses your expectations. It’s really enjoyable to see their relationship form and meet their friends and family along the way. I also loved reading about the animals they worked with and their storylines were so cute. This is a very character heavy book and they was such a likable ensemble that it was such a joy reading their stories. There was also a lot of comedy, hence the romcom genre, and there were many moments I audibly laughed. I NEED to read a book about Olive finding love now.
Some of the supernatural dialogue was cringey at first but it didn’t take long to get used to. The characters’ lovability made up for any qualms I had. The ending was also a little rushed but I feel like that’s a typical complaint for any romance book.
I definitely recommend this one, especially for romcom lovers looking to read something slightly different within the genre. There’s also representation with the leading lady, Rose, who is plus-sized and tall, which is definitely nice to see in romance.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sending me an arc in exchange for a review.

3.5 - cute characters and this one had a more interesting plot but still hard to get fully invested.
*Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Griffin publishing for allowing me to read and review is ARC.*
Fun, spicy, and character driven! If you were a fan of “Not the Witch You Wed,” you’ll love following Rose as she finds purpose and passion after living her life in training as the next Prima. After and ill fated horse napping, Rose is sentenced to community service with Damien, a former one night stand, at his animal sanctuary.
I loved Rose’s and Damien’s arch, as the book was spicy, but still had heart and a story. As I read the book, I found I had to tell every one I knew that they had to read this book if they were a fan of urban fantasy and romance.
Solid 4 out of 5 stars!

I was excited to jump back into the Maxwell sisters' lives with this one. And the author did not let me down. This sequel to Not the Witch You Wed followed Rose Maxwell's story after stepping down from her place as the Prima Apparent. I really enjoyed watching Rose's journey from floundering in life to knowing exactly what she wanted for her future. This one offered the perfect mixture of sweet and spicy. The steamy scenes were not overdone which made for a very enjoyable read. I always enjoy revisiting couples from previous books and it was great to meet up with Vi and Lincoln again. So far, the Supernatural Singles series has been excellent! I highly recommend reading it!

A super cute book, second in the series. It’s pretty lighthearted and follows the same plot at the previous book. I wished for a little more diversity, but overall I was still rooting for them!
I loved Rose's story! I loved the sexy Half demon Damian, together with Rose the two make a formidable team! I really enjoyed the vet aspect of it too, I'm a sucker for animal rescue stories that end happy for the animals.
What I like most about April Asher's writing is that I know what I'm getting when I pick up her books. I know the book will be spicy, rom com with fun banter between the two MCs, side characters I love and need more of (loved seeing Vi from book 1, need to know more about Olive in the next book and I need Harper to have a book and Damian's brother the list goes on!) I know there isn't a huge "big bad" in these books, they read a lot like contemporary romance but add magic, basically what I'm getting at is that in a world of Crowns, Thorns and Courts made of glass or otherwise in the fantasy romance world, it's nice to pick up a book that's going to give me all the feels without ripping my heart out along the way.

This series is VERY cute. A friend recommended the first (Not The Witch You Wed) and, upon finishing, I immediately had to request a review copy of this second installment. It’s a quick, cute read with a lovable family of witches and an eclectic group of supernaturals thriving in NYC. I will say, though, that besides the supernatural representation, this series is pretty much a straight, white depiction of characters… so if you’re looking for diversity in that regard, you won’t find it.
I like that the Maxwell sisters are very independent and headstrong. While Rose’s main love interest wants to protect and care for her, she doesn’t *need* him and I like when couples are written that way.
This one is much steamier than the first and you’ll hear no complaining from me about the sexy scenes - *excellently written!*
I feel like this second book had more character development outside the supernatural community. While the first focuses on finding the next head witch and supernatural alliances, Not Your Ex’s Hexes explores the characters job/apartment hunting and quite a bit of work with an animal sanctuary, which was sweet and refreshing.
Can’t wait for the 3rd one!
Highly recommend!
