Another delightful rom com about the Maxwell sisters. Damian was a fantastic romantic hero. The ending was a little too neat though. Still a fun read!

This one's a fun, sexy supernatural romp that's enjoyable from beginning to end.
Witch Rose Maxwell finds herself adrift in life when she suddenly finds herself ousted from the position she'd been trained for all her life. She's not mad about it and she's happy to let her sister take her place, but now she has no idea what to do with herself. Until a failed animal rescue lands her doing community hours at an animal sanctuary under the supervision of growly half-demon Damian Adams. Not a bad deal if it weren't for the fact that Damian is the one-night-stand that she can't get out of her head. Meanwhile, Damian has his own issues, the least of which is a hex from an ex that curses his soul if he ever falls in love. Not too bad, until spending time together makes both Rose and Damian realize that there could be so much more between them if they'd only be willing to open up.
Both characters have their good and bad points, which just so happen to be perfect counterbalances to each other. They're also surrounded by interesting side characters that actually contribute to the story in a way that opens up the world and made me want to know more about it and them.
It's the second book in the series and I don't think it's necessary to have read the first one to fully enjoy this one. It might make some of the world and overall situation a bit clearer, but it's not necessary to fully enjoy the great interactions between Rose and Damian.
Overall, it's a very fun story with well-executed sexy times and a perfectly classic rom-com ending. What's not to like?
Happy thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin for the magical read!

This was such a light easy read and it was just what I needed.
'Not Your Ex's Hexes' is April Asher's second book in her Supernatural Singles series. In this instalment we have second daughter Rose, who until recently was being trained to become the next Prima, but now suddenly that her sister has come into her powers Rose's life is no longer set out before her with no say from her. Wanting to find herself she bounces around from career to job, ride driver, bar tender, hunter, liberator of abused horses. It's that last one that gets her in a bit of trouble when it turns out the horses had already been rescued and were healing at a sanctuary. After getting caught she is sentenced to community service hours at the animal sanctuary which puts her working directly under half-demon veterinarian Damian. Starting a friends with benefits arrangement with him at the same time as getting more involved in his life at the sanctuary begins to cause more than just sparks to fly between the two.

This is my first Apple Asher book and it won't be the last. It was the right amount of snark, stupid funny, light hearted, rom com that I enjoy. Best of all no third act mis communication break up. Not that there break up reason was a good one, are they ever in these books, but this one didnt peeve me as much. I listened to this on audiobook and I don't know if its the only one I read where its a single female narrator with the book swapping view points but I gotta say Zura Johnson did a great job and after hearing her I kinda wish more books used a single narrator even when theres a female and male POVs.
In some books like these the bits with the friends/siblings/the other couples that couple up in the series can be a bit much but I felt like we got to see them the regular amount one would in a regular life, not every scene was the core couples when there was groups, there were a bunch of cutesy mentions of the couple that got together in book one and there was definite lining up of the couple for the next book but it wasn't too much and overbearing.
Anyways I enjoyed this cute light read and will definitely be checking out more to mix in with the rest I read.

This was a light, breezy read with a few steamy scenes. Decent world-building (supernatural beings living along side "norms"), interesting politics and job opportunities, and overall just charming.
I look forward to reading the other books in the series.
