(4.5 stars) Wow!! Impressive! Unique! Enthralling! I can't wait to get to the second book...
The sex scene I wasn't fan of it as I think it's unnecessary and too graphic for my taste, but that seems to be a thing on most contemporary books, so I simply move past it to enjoy the rest of the story. Since then, I've read all 3 books and they're all great!

Really engaging and interesting. loved the world building, and the characters. And most of the writing was really good too, except a few times the dialogue and interpersonal interactions felt a bit corny (that's not exactly what I mean but can't find a better word) but that wasn't a big flaw. Definitely going to continue reading the trilogy

I really loved the Inheritance Trilogy by Jemisin. It was increidbly thoughtful and imaginative. It also had some very deep content that took me a while to wade through. The Fifth Season by contrast was a much easier read, but with the incredible world building and flawed characters that I've come to love in her work.

The story itself, and the threads it wove together were engaging and well-wrought. Definitely a page turner. That said, it was just shy of five star territory for me. Maybe because it's an opener for a trilogy and a lot of it is simply setting the stage? I have a feeling that the next book may tie a lot of my "ok?" thoughts together from this one. Or at least I hope it does.

At any rate, if you haven't read Jemisin, this would actually be a good place to start. Thoroughly enjoyed this one.
