And my choice for book of the year for 2016..... The Fifth Season. I don't normally read fantasy, and the description of the book really didn't grab me. If it hadn't won the Hugo I wouldn't even have picked it up. But, despite the controversy, the Hugo Awards do seem to surface some of the best writing out there. And I not read it would have been my loss.

Certainly a quirky book, and quirky is really had to pull off well. But the book nails it and was a constant surprise and joy to read. I recommend!

I'm pretty torn on this one. On one hand, I think Jemisin's writing style is great, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the world she created here. On the other hand though, I was not interested at all in the story or the character's journeys. As well, Robin Miles is a superb narrator and had me deep in this world with her voice.
