I had a hard time getting through the first couple chapters because of all the Egypt talk. But then I was hooked. I’ve written down things I will quote. Golly, love is messy. But damn if that feeling of being torn in two didn’t register with me. “You think the opposite of love is hate. It’s complacency”. Ugh. This book was so so so good.
This book brought me back to my 5th grade fascination with ancient Egypt (thanks Shutesbury Elementary!) - adding quantum physics and pondering of the multiverse to capture my adult fascinations. I both liked and disliked the main character - which made her more human.
Jodi Picoult has a talent for picking a complex topic and writing a compelling story at the heart of that topic. This story felt a little off from her usual deep dive - there was simply too much going on. Still, I devoured it in less than a day.

RIYL love triangles, the catharsis of reading about people on planes, Indiana Jones, reading dialogue in a posh British accent.
Oh I enjoyed this book. It did drag on a bit, the information about Egypt made me want to go there but also got a bit tiresome. The ending could’ve done with 1 more chapter but I also feel like I know what happened too.
Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors. She usually writes intricate stories that delve between multiple stories, sometimes various timelines, and the stories always weave together beautifully. Sadly, not this time. It was told from one perspective and while the timeline jumped back and forth it did so from three points - 15 years ago and then back and forth from present day and a few months prior. It was confusing - especially when the months prior and current day met up. Plus some of what was said from months ago contradicted what was happening in present. However, the research and detail about Egypt and Egyptian history was amazing. I was in Egypt 2+ years ago and it brought me back there, crawling through one of the great pyramids. Want to love love love this. But can’t.
4.5 for me. There were times where I couldn't listen to one more minute about Egypt but at the same time I was in awe with the amount of research it took to tell this story. It was a great story.

I really enjoyed the story but got so bogged down with the excruciating details about Egyptology and quantum physics that I ended up skimming quite a bit.
