The Book of Two Ways

Jodi Picoult

3.7 AVERAGE

Like others have said the lectures on egyptology were tedious maximus and detracted from what could have been a fun and moving story. Very close to DNF.

Quite good-written but I am not a fan of Egyptian mythology

I love Jodi Picoult but jeez the main character was so difficult to like
slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
emotional informative reflective medium-paced

As a fan of Picoult's previous books, I had no doubt that this book would also surpass my expectations. I love the way she intertwines Egyptian information into the plot of the main character Dawn, a death doula, who experiences her own moment of facing death. With this, she realizes what she truly wants after all these years. I couldn't stop reading the book once I started it. Definitely would recommend this!

Phew! A large chunk of the center of the book felt stagnant and slow to me. It didn't seem like much was going to happen, just a slightly bored/distressed woman traipsing through her past without any intent of action other than nostalgia. All of the tiny ancient egypt mythologies took up too much storyline space and felt to boring and wordy. The last quarter of the book made up for it all. Everything was tied together, the plot thickened and sped up  and emotions everywhere. It really made you think of life, the past, love, moral choices, and death in so many different ways through different people and lifetimes.

A twisty, complicated story about life, love, passion, time, fate, multiple universes, and most of all, death.  To be honest, I’ve avoided reading much about death since my dad died because I still miss him so fiercely, and also live with the fear of my mom dying everyday. So many of Picoult’s words touched me deeply, but what resonated with me most was perhaps that it’s not just the ones who are dying who are afraid of their futures, it’s also the ones that love them who fear being left behind, alone in their grief and sorrow:  “If my clients are afraid of dying, then my clients' caregivers fear being alone. There is something bleak and barren about a world that is missing the person who knows you best.”

I’ve always been fascinated by ancient Egypt, and I loved reading more about their history, culture, and religion, and how it relates to our modern beliefs. Dawn’s work as a death doula was also fascinating, and I can see how useful and special someone would be to have around at that time. I don’t want to talk to much about this book and risk spoiling it, but I really loved it, all the way through. I love the way the story was told, I loved the writing, I love what was being said. Life is complicated and painful, and also glorious and breathtaking, and you can say the same about love.

if my mother did this to my family i’d never speak to her again. the only thing i liked about this wattpad harry styles egypt au was the use of multiverse only to find out it wasn’t multiverse at all. it was corny and cliche beyond belief but again my main concern is how much of an asshole do you have to be to feel entitled to do sth like that to your spouse. buzzfeed pop feminism ruined society
