Another good one! Sookie's extreme desirability is still sort of annoying but the story line with the vampire summit is fantastic and I love all the vampire maneuvering and politics. The ending was also REALLY good and gave me chills.

This is my favourite book in the series! A summit for all the important vampire nobles in North America? Yes please! That summit being the FIRST time since the vampires came out of the coffin, the FIRST time they have human servants preparing the venue and running the security? How could any of that possibly go wrong? Throw in Sookie plus another telepath to help her search for the traitors and this book is just so fun.

This book also details various crimes vampires commit against each other and how their court deals with punishing those crimes and its really interesting!

I can feel the influence the TV show Angel (which I love) had on this story at times, especially when Sookie learns that one of the vampires made a contract with demon assassins from another dimension to come to the summit and act as his protectors.

***SPOILERS***

I love Sookie always being the smartest one in the room. At the beginning when they discuss the delays they’ve had planning the summit, Sookie points out that its suspicious that they delayed until right after Hurricane Katrina destroyed so much of New Orleans, and changed the Queen of Louisiana from one of the strongest territories to one of the weakest. She rightly intuits that someone has a weather predicting witch on their team. She follows up on this at the summit and finds the witch, proving her suspicions.

I also think Eric proved himself a better fit for Sookie than Quinn in this one. Both men are at the summit for work, yet when Sookie needs aid it is always Eric who is ready and able. Sookie thinks about Quinn once “it would have been better if he had shown up 10 minutes earlier… or not at all” because he found her with Eric already there and got jealous. Throw in Quinn’s secret backstory that he hid from Sookie and this book really is the beginning of the end for them.
