I wanted to like this, but I couldn't get past the 'conversation' format or the clunky writing.

I found some of the ideas challenging, but would have been prepared to explore this more if the book had been more nuanced. This was like being hit over the head with a brick. I'll look for another exploration of Adler's psychology.

A reading that is counter-intuitive to the ideas of mental health. The book invalidates trauma and refuses to acknowledge the process of healing. Even the sound of it is bizarre in a mid-pandemic world where the effects of neglecting mental health couldn't be emphasised more. Yet, this book is full of gems of its own.

The ideas and methodologies that the book asks you to follow -- having horizontal relationships; encouraging people; self-acceptance; having confidence in others; adopting community feeling -- are idealistic yet thought provoking. You may not be able to apply them in the literal sense in your day to day life. But they will help you to move forward and to worry less about the problems that are out of your control. The book even goes to an extent to teach you create a boundary for problems are in and out of your control.

To sum up, there is a point in the book where it asks you not to rush to answers; to keep contemplating and that the answers will arrive to you unbeknownst. But an uncertain life is a restless one, isn't it... The book might help you to tread through these times.

В целом интересная книга. Ничего супер нового не узнал, но освежил некоторые моменты.

The concepts in this book are really interesting and I appreciate that they were presented in straightforward language with multiple examples. I did not like the format, though. The dialogue between the philosopher and the youth was so stiff and contrived, especially the youth. I don’t believe anyone would say the things he said or do the things he did. I understand he existed to illustrate the concepts but it was annoying and took me out of the book.
