I almost stopped about 20% in. I read some reviews on here though and decided to keep going. Glad I did because it was definitely very thought provoking.
Here are some thoughts I wrote down even though I listened on audio and had to recall notable moments to think about:
-All problems are interpersonal problems
-We gain value or worth by being useful to others - doing and being
-Don’t praise but thank and be grateful - praise is judgment and superior feeling
- See everyone as horizontal not vertical - equal but different
- Accept yourself for what you can do, who you are
- Have confidence that others will do their part to contribute and care for others (keep having confidence)
- Feel value/worth by seeing how you contribute to others/community

A very interesting perspective on interpersonal relationships, freedom, and happiness. I listened to this book so I can’t quite explain all the themes of Adlerian psychology but I definitely enjoyed the format and thought provoking dialogue. I’d like to read it one day and engage more with the topics.
I especially liked the ideas of “separation of tasks”, freedom is the courage to be disliked, and happiness is community feeling.
I wish the book took a few more times to reiterate the concepts covered. Also, I think there’s limitations to an a framework meant for an individual in a world of systemic oppression, id like to learn more about Adlerian perspective on that.

The book is a weird structure with an old man trying to prove his theories of life to a young man. It’s a distracting and counterproductive tactic.
