I liked that this book went into a lot of depth on environmental topics, but I think it doesn't lend itself well to being a picture book for that reason. The concepts seem a little more complicated than picture book readers would be dealing with - I think it'd be great for middle graders but they may not gravitate toward a picture book style.

"Even the smallest creatures can change the world."

Once again, Lily Williams has taken a complicated process and simplified it for young and old readers alike. With colorful illustrations and well-researched depictions of the 'what ifs,' If Bees Disappeared makes for an entertaining and enlightening picture book. Save the bees!!!

I absolutely love Lily Williams's 'If they Disappeared' series and this is a fantastic addition to the series!
We follow Simone as she travels to Kent in the UK and they learn all about the different kinds of bees, what would happen if we no longer had them, and how this would affect the wider ecosystem. The book explains how this was affect both other animals and pollination, and lead to many of our sources of food we humans rely on disappearing too!

Lily Williams is a master at illustrating and designing pages filled with complex facts, laid out in an easy to understand and accessible way, that makes learning a pleasure.
There is a helpful glossary in the back, and some calls to action about how you can help bees!

I loved the beautiful illustrations in this book and learning just how many different kinds of bees there are and the incredible role they play, fascinating!

A must for every classroom and library.

If Bees Disappeared by Lily Williams is a gorgeously illustrated picture books about the impact of bees on their ecosystems. The cartoonish illustration style and bold, vivid colors lead the reader through the book. The prose is quite technical but not overwhelming; high-level concepts like Colony Collapse Disorder and keystone species are discussed and explained thoroughly. The book is focused on the environmental ramifications of declining bee populations.

I really like the If Animals Disappeared picture book series and this one features bees, which I think is so relevant and important. I'm always looking for picture books that teach young readers about the importance of bees and I think that this particular book does that without overriding too much information into it. It focuses on the basic facts about why bees are so important and the ways that they are being threatened and endangered in this book. It is very easy to follow and make the connections of how the disappearance of bees will affect other species and humans.
