WHAT A MASTERPIECE.

Miles is the my new favourite book boyfriend and nobody will ever top him off. the annie-pack? the proving to her she's not broken? unknowingly training her in case she needs it? helping her see how brave she is? s w o o n i n g !!

the intensity of the scene at the end of the book was crazy and i was literally sitting on the edge of my seat because of it and reading annie realize how brave/strong she is made me so proud.

i really enjoyed the nuance between Whitney and Annie and how much she needed them both to live her life until Miles barged in.

the spice is immaculate and yes i need more of them. I had not read a book with spice this good in a very long time and i missed it. and i do not mean in the sense that it was well written and executed but also in the sense that it made sense with the story!

my favorite books/character has a cameo and i literally screamed!

maggie is now on my auto-boy author list ; she can do no wrong.

thank you @authormikaylachristy for the rec! 🧡

Wow what a way to kick off a novel! For anyone who is truly a Maggie gates fan and has been around her books, especially the Beaufort poker series, she gives us a major secret reveal in the very first chapter! Who knew Annie was filled with so much anxiety, although i couldn’t imagine living two lives.

This is a story about an author who is getting threats from a stalker so her assistant hires a body guard. Insert miles. the story follows them as they travel for book signings and ultimately her kidnapping. There is so much more thought to this story, it is so well written and beautifully crafted.

Oh miles miles miles. This man! He had me laughing one minute and then feeling all swooned the next.  I absolutely ADORED the way Miles cared for Annie. The way he anticipated her needs. The way her found a way to build her up and celebrate every accomplishment no matter how small, especially the teeny tiny ones! He is an absolute dream and gentleman. Haha his nickname for Phe (crumpets 🤣🤣🤣), he is something else. Everyone needs a miles in their life! He is absolute sunshine! The crocks, the swim trunks, The way he emotionally and mentally lifts Annie up. I love how he encourages her and gets into her for talking down on her self. I love how he tells her how her books are magical! He talks about how they are a safe place for people to go and escape from the darkness in the world. He goes on about how books help give people encouragement, insight, courage, how they are relatable and are lifesavers for some .

Books give us hope for the future and what life could be. I couldn’t agree with this more,  it just a few of the many reasons I personally love books and reading and i just love that miles is engraining this into Annie’s head.

Some of my favorite quotes:
“Everything grows” … “everything has to go through its own kind of progression. Plants. Animals. People. Don’t be scared of growth. Don’t be scared of change. You have the strength to make it through the changes to become who you were meant to be. Don’t fight it, charge into it head first.”

“Books don’t live in libraries or stores. They live inside of us. Simply removing them from shelves doesn’t remove their impact.”

“Don’t stop being loud just because someone doesn’t want you to be heard.”

“If this is the only lifetime that I’ll get you, then it’s my favorite one.”

"Every introvert needs an emotional-support extrovert."

Truer words were never spoken! I like to refer to it as "buddy-system extroverting." 😂 Regardless, Annie is the embodiment of a little anxiety-filled introvert. Honestly, the portrayal of her panic attacks, anxiety tummy, and self-consciousness that comes with being aware of one's own anxiety was spot on. If I'm asked to speak in front of a crowd, I instantly start sweating...pits, hands, boobs (the works)! 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Miles is hired to protect Annie and bulldozes his way into her life as this hyperactive, chaotic, golden retriever of a guy, who is super proud of the things he enjoys (Pink Drinks and Crocs top the list). He wears his weird out in the open and uses it to break down dear Annie's defenses.

I LOVE Miles! Listen, would I feel compelled to shake him into silence on occasion?  Sure, but I think the way he  supports Annie from the start is so special and desirable in a friend, a lover, and a partner.

This book introduces us to a brand new cast of characters (and features some old faves), and it's intriguing to see where Maggie is going to take us with our new friends at Keller & Asses (Oops....I mean, Associates)!

We also have a real tongue-in-cheek reading experience as romance tropes are often teased and discussed throughout. I loved that it poked fun at a lot of our favorite tropes while still working some of those into the context of the story.

OH! I almost forgot! Miles is absolutely a hopeless romantic. The way he waxes poetic about their kiss and her lips. I was highlighting passage after passage, thinking Miles was going to melt right off the page! 😂

Maggie Gates never disappoints, and I'm eager to recommend another excellent book! 100 Lifetimes of Us is out June 12th!

Also, the attention that Maggie gives to her characters' culture and heritage is remarkable! I feel like these characters are genuinely well-crafted and whole people in the Maggie-verse.

Annie needs to go out on a book tour but has a stalker so a bodyguard is hired. Miles is this hyperactive golden retriever type character and I enjoyed that spin. Normally the bodyguards are always these broody grumps. I related to Annie's character a lot with her anxiety. Annie is at a crossroads with her person life sort of meshing with the writer persona that was created with her friend/ employee.

I enjoyed the book a lot and Maggie has a signature writing style for sure that brings me some comfort and job. I did struggle with a couple things, the whole black ops bodyguard agency was a little hard to believe and the stalker plot was pretty predictable for a suspense side of the book. One thing I always struggle to some degree with Maggie's books is the pet names and just how overused they are and this one is no different. I know some people do not care but pet names always scrape my brain a bit and with how frequent it was used it definitely was scratching the brain nerves.

But if you just go with the vibes, funny moments, spice, romance build this is an enjoyable romance.

This is the first book I’ve read by Maggie Gates that didn’t make me cry. It was definitely a romcom, but had some romantic suspense vibes thrown in. I absolutely loved Miles Zhou, who proved you can be a cinnamon roll but also an alpha dom.

Miles is hired as a bodyguard to Whitney West, a successful romance writer with a stalker. But what he gets is Annie Smith, pie baker and woman struggling to be what she thinks is expected of her. Annie struggled a lot with her identity. Was she Whitney or just Annie? She struggled with anxiety and panic attacks and it made her so relatable as a character.

Miles might have been the most perfect book boyfriend Maggie Gates has written. He was everything Annie didn’t know she needed. He was goofy and easy going but fierce in his determination to protect Annie, and not just physically. Miles was Annie’s biggest champion. He taught her to relax and be herself and encouraged her to choose herself over other’s expectations.

I loved Miles and Annie. They were the perfect yin and Yang. Annie was Miles’ calm and Miles was Annie’s sounding board. There were so many new characters but I really loved the tour through some of Maggie’s older characters. It seemed like every stop on Annie’s book tour had someone to reminisce over and I loved it. This book really felt like a bridge between the new and old. There were tons of hints for the future while still staying focused on Miles and Annie’s journey.
