When I first started reading this, I was thinking it was fully historical fiction, but it takes a mad science turn that really threw me for a while. I probably should have seen it coming, but I definitely did not.
Anyhow, this was super creepy and pretty gross (which is why I chose it as my final book of the Halloween reading season), but also very enjoyable. I didn't love the ending. I get the ending, but I didn't have a great time reading it. I am glad there's a sequel, and I'm hoping that the things I didn't like about this get resolved in that one. I will definitely be reading it, because I need closure!

this is like the book version of 'The Artful Dodger'--- no complaints!
Most of the book was interesting, but it skirted actually looking into the questions of existence and mortality that the theme and even some of the characters claimed to be interested in. To be honest, the ending was just unsatisfying and felt forced.
