I gave this a 4.75 on fable. It’s a beautifully written story of a girls journey between what she wants versus what society chooses for her, and what she is willing to do to be able to do what she wants. Also the romance was wonderful I MISS YOU JACK… NEVER LET GO JACK….

I think the concept of this book was interesting, however, I found it quite boring + not much happened. I think the historical time period may have been an afterthought or to try to give it some Sweeney Todd vibes but it just fell short for me. I think this would have been a really great story to be written as a horror book to lean into some of the more grotesque themes that were skipped over or lightly touched. I'm not saying it was a horrible book, but I did listen to it at 1.8 speed so it was only 5 hours long but I probably would have dnf'd it had I physically read it. I enjoy some YA but this was unfortunately not it for me.

I loved loved loved this book. I think I read it in two days? It’s honestly just a fun read with some plot twists and really loveble characters. Has a YA feeling to it, but reminded me of in middle school or high school when a book just completely draws you. The plot twist at the VERRYYY end felt a little disconnected to the rest of the book for me, I think it could have been set up a little better, but honestly that’s my only the complaint for the book. I really hope to see all my favorite characters in the 2nd book (which I downloaded immediately)

Honestly, I did not like this book. I thought it was interesting to read about an independent girl, who is about to break the norms and become a doctor. But turns out, it was much more intense and gory, which I did not like at all. In addition to that, the last part of the book it felt like the author wanted to get it done really quickly so the storyline felt rushed.

Loved. Give me feminist Frankenstein vibes in gothic Edinburgh any day of the week.

historical fiction with a hint of romance will always have a place in my heart
