It suffers from a mild case of middle book syndrome. Not much happens. I was listening to it with the text to voice feature of my reading app, and at times I just spaced out for a few minutes and I didn't feel like I missed anything. It wasn't totally boring, but still. Ivy's survival training is glossed over in book one, the training of the rest of the humans could have been the same. And that takes most of this book.

Book starts by picking you up right where book 1 left you. The book is fast paced with a mix of fantasy world building and character development accompanied by some spice<3. Characters other than the two mains have their moments to shine and start to feel like truly dimensional characters. However once again the authors leave you scrambling to process that’s going to happen next as they leave you to dwell on the cliffhanger.

The ending broke my heart 💔. Ella was supposed to have a peaceful ending. 🥲 I get it though — plot development.

Quite liked the development of both plot and characters in this 2nd book. The diverse range of characters and differing personalities was great to the story.

Also, I did not like Cole from the start ... and I still don't like him. As for the Queen, she can die. 🤺

I adored seeing the beginning of Rekosh and Ahmya. I look forward to reading their book and also of the other couples.

Ivy and Ketahn are faced with a hard choice that could lead to their potential death from Zurvashi. Ketahn gathers his three friends and his sister to try and prepare the humans for a long adventure to hopefully save themselves.

After reading this one I immediately jumped into reading the third book. I couldn't contain myself. This entire series for me was a 5/5 and I would love to get the collection at some point.

(I’m writing this review after finishing the trilogy.)

I came for the smut (pun not intended) but stayed for the fantastic world building, plot, and character development!

This book had the best pacing out of the three, in my opinion. With the introduction of the other 7 humans, as well as more scenes with additional Vrix, the cast of characters expanded greatly. The humans added a really interested element and overall impact to the greater plot.

In this book we really get to see Ivy and Ketahn shine as a couple and with each scene I love them both more and more.

Ends with a cliffhanger, but the third book is already out so it’s all good.
