Most Stephen King is soooo long, but I wanted this to be longer!

This is a shorter King book, part of his Hard Case Crime imprint. It’s enjoyable. He does have certain idiosyncrasies in his writing which feel insincere to me at times—I mentioned this to my sister and she said ‘Thats just Stephen King being Stephen King’. It’s funny to feel like he’s an old friend or something now. He’s probably the only author I’ve read consistently for my entire reading life, and I still really like him and seek him out. I like this pulp fiction iteration and will read the other Hard Case books.

This was okay. I didn’t care for the twist at the end but I do love when Stephen Ling writes from a a kid’s POV

Grounded speculative horror written by an expert novelist is just the best. King's dialogue is the bomb, too.

I just have so many questions…

what year is it?
Why are we referencing 90’s news, speaking like it’s the 1950’s and claiming it’s 2010’s?

Why does this kid sound like he’s 80 and 5 at all times?

Why is everyone a caricature of themselves?

Why do we need to be reminded this is a horror?

Why is there no arc?

Why is there an obsession with later?!

Why did king parody himself?

Why Stephen why?!?!?!
