The protagonist, Rob, is the biggest prick I’ve read about. How can he be so whiny & treat everyone like trash, and not get any bad karma? Hmmmm
slow-paced

I loved this book. It's hard to believe it was his debut novel. Rob Fleming is at once sensitive and self-absorbed, child-like and mature, and his interactions with people are great.

Witty, funny and still relevant. A great commentary on life. Would definitely read more by Hornby

insufferable man moans for 33 chapters

the movie version of this book made me sad, sad, sad. although i do love jack black, all the nuance was gone!

This is a nostalgic 5-star rating of a book that I've read roughly 10 times.

I disliked the fact that my brain kept referencing the movie. It ruined some of the characters for me.

I used to fully recognize myself in these pages, but I saw only glimpses this time around. It's still funny and relevant and well-written, but I wasn't moved in the same way that I expected to be.

I find it strange and even a little comforting that although my age now more closely matches the age of Rob than in any previous reading, I identified with him a lot less. There's probably more there than I'm ready to examine.

God Rob is insufferable.
