usually all for a shitty protagonist but this just did not hit for me
I originally discovered this book through the movie based on it, and when I finally have read it as an adult, I am surprised by its reality, humor, and backwards romanticism. I see a lot of myself in Rob, over thinking everything and letting romantic quandaries get him down, and I absolutely love his utter self-centeredness throughout the entire novel. He is a thoroughly real character, and I liked experiencing his evolution as he tries to find himself to be happy. However, I will say that I enjoyed the movie a bit more - it wasn't as dark, and clipped out some of the bits that were harder to swallow.
I remember seeing this movie and thinking, "Holy shit! That's me and my friends!"
The book is a little different, but not a lot. Just as good, if not, better. Can't wait to read more Hornby.
Awesomeness side-note: The book takes place in London (as opposed to Chicago like the movie), but one of the characters is from Austin.

Seriously, men complain about women being self-conscious babies! Jesus, main character needs a snap out of it in this one :)
