Interesting but PREACHY!

Corrie Ten Boom’s legacy of faith and forgiveness has impacted me for years however it wasn’t until 2021 that I actually read her most famous work, “The Hiding Place.” In it, Corrie tells the story of how she and her family risked their lives to help Jews and underground workers escape from the Nazi’s during World War II. This dangerous act of love and bravery led to them being arrested and sent to Hitler’s concentration camps where their faith in Christ was put to the ultimate test. I was already very familiar with the contents of “The Hiding Place” but even still, the Ten Booms’ story did not fail to inspire and challenge me, especially during a time of political tension in my own country. Although our circumstances are nowhere near what Corrie faced, her story reminded me that faith ultimately triumphs over evil and that we must obey God rather than men!

This book was beautiful. I've heard wonderful things about it but avoided reading it for years because I've read a lot about the Holocaust and WWII and generally avoid it now because it is so heavy. We decided to read it in my book club, because a lot of us were feeling similarly and thought it would be nice to read it together. I'm so glad we did. It was heavy, but also so inspiring. It was amazing to hear about how they persisted against impossible obstacles, how they were lead and protected by God, and how Corrie was able to heal and help others to heal afterwards. I especially appreciated how she obviously felt like she was just a normal person, which made her so easy to relate to.

Corrie Ten Boom drew me in with her storytelling but she really got me with the thread of loving weaving this book together. The thread of hope and trust in God. I cannot recommend this book enough! My heart and soul feel as though I have gotten to know this woman and her family and their open, trusting hearts.
