Corrie ten Boom

4.4 AVERAGE

My very favorite book!!

Corrie ten Boom’s story is unlike any I’ve ever read before. The thing I love about the World War 2 subset genre is how versatile it is. There are books from the viewpoint of people from France, America, Germany, Holland, England, etc. Each community has stories of hardship to share from this time, but the stories are also full of hope.

I had always heard this true story was amazing and yet I still wasn’t prepared for the way it made me feel. I absolutely loved it. Not only is this book fantastically written, but Corrie’s personality and those of her comrades really shine through. Her hope and innate ability to see the good in people were beautiful. Even after all she went through, her faith in God was strong and she still wanted to help people. She could have kept her head down and tried to forget her experience, but instead she used it to make herself stronger and help others.

It’s a fantastic book. I highly recommend.

I was required to read this book for a class, and it was genuinely interesting. I'm not a huge fan of stories revolving around Christian people, but the information about the Holocaust in this book is priceless. At the start it is a very slow book, but it does pick up as the events of WWII unfold, and it truly is heartbreaking to see what people went through at this time.

You can’t read this book without seeing the amazing power of God’s work in people who love and obey him.

Happiness isn’t something that depends on our surroundings, Corrie. It’s something we make inside ourselves.

Truly phenomenal; at times I felt I was reading a devotional. ten Boom’s memoir is moving, challenging, inspiring, and sobering. If I could aspire to possess nearly 1/10 of her faith I would be overjoyed. A masterpiece.

DNF.  This just felt like a huge proselytizing rhetoric.

Wow. This is what it means to live for Jesus.
Anyone who thinks miracles don’t happen tofay needs to read this first hand account of a Dutch woman in Holland occupied by Germany during the war.
She was led by Holy Spirit all the way I am absolutely floored! This is what I dream of when I think about America turning into a persecution frenzy of Christians , or the end end times where people need our joy. This is the heart posture I’ve committed myself to and I’m so in love with seeing it actually carried out by a fellow sister in Christ. The whole resistance part is my reality these days as I fight for American freedom bc little actually know how close we are to losing our freedoms.

Sometimes Corrie or her dad or Betsy would be straight preaching and I’d find myself releasing an AMEN! Or “cmon sista Corrie!!”.

Also of note is the fact that the last 3 or so books I’ve read referred to some type of sequester, or a such it in. We’re in quarantine right now. It’s suggested by gov that we don’t leave our houses. So it’s weird that other books referred to a phenomenon like this; Hiding Place actually used the word “quarantine” at one point ..

Also, I realized while reading this book that God is our Hiding Place. Our houses are our Hiding Place physically but God is our actual Hiding Place. Always no matter what! Whether we have a gun pointing at our heads by a communist/socialist government worker or drug through underground tunnels; God is our Hiding Place - of His glory we won’t be silent and His perfect love is worth our lives. Nothing can stop our seating in heavenly places with Jesus on His throne. Now and forever.

It is estimated that she saved more than 800 Jews through her peaceful resistance. This makes my dreams and desires more tangible.
