kinda too religious instead of focusing of the horrors of concentration camps, still, corrie’s faith is inspiring
The Christian girl inside me has to rave about this book without ceasing because I found so many interesting things, as well as mottos and quotes such as "Jesus is Victor" and many more. I don't know about you but this book made me learn that whenever you need a refuge, He can be your refuge, whenever you need a place in which you have to be alone He can be that place, in His presence you can calm down and focus and whenever you think you need a person to be there for you, He and only He can be there for you and offer you the support you need. He's your savior, Jesus IS your hiding place. 10/10 would recommend this book.
I throughly enjoyed the first part of this book. I’ve been to Harrlem so I was fun remembering the beautiful little streets and the tall homes nestled so close together. I loved the little family and their traditions and even found their faith comforting.
And then the second part of the story happened… Religion… The Bible….Preaching. At first I thought whatever it takes to get them through their hell, but after a while I honestly was done listening to the ridiculous rhetoric of the holy word.
I’m sorry but praying for the abusers and feeling sorry for them? Thanking God for fleas? Happy to be naked like Christ was on the cross? If they were near me spewing that nonsense I would have smacked them both silly!
I like to think of myself and a decent, forgiving person. But I can say with a whole heart that if there is a Hell I hope every single person who was complicit in the horrors of the Holocaust burns in it for all eternity.

This book'll break your heart as to what she and her fellow prisoners went through. It also show God's mircles in this world today and shows us his providence.

I have heard of Corrie ten Boom all my life. I never pictured her as a relatable person. From what I had gathered, she faced the horrors of the holocaust armed with a Bible and her saintly sister and she survived to become a world renown speaker. I’m ashamed to say that in college my husband and I fell asleep watching the movie adaptation of this. (It was dark, slow and quiet and we were sleepy😂) So I wasn’t prepared for the rush of love I felt for this book.

This is a first person account of Corrie’s experiences before, during, and after World War 2 and if you are a historical fiction lover, this book is a great one to read. But the spiritual aspect of the book is what makes it so much more. The reader gets to see how Corrie trusted God to lead her—through dark human depravity—and back into the light, how God answered her prayers every step of the way, and how Corrie continued to find joy through it all. And I found Corrie very relatable.

We have all become so pampered and sensitive, and Corrie’s endurance at age fifty has impacted my life for good. Only yesterday I faced a tough situation and immediately my mind went to Corrie. God led her through the worst things of this world and I know I can make it through my little day to day troubles.

This book is right up there with Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, competing for my number one favorite non-fiction book. Right now Corrie definitely has the number one spot.

I absolutely loved this book. There were times where I thought Betsie was crazy for keeping her faith in such horrible conditions, but I was proved wrong. Corrie was so pure and so strong throughout her life. So glad I read it!
