Corrie ten Boom

4.4 AVERAGE

A powerful, moving memoir that is beautifully told and well narrated. Recommended for those interested in hearing from one of WWII's heroes in her own words.

8/10

I can't believe I just read this for the first time at 43. What a beautiful testimony of the protection of God, of the indescribable joy and gospel-focus of Betsy, and of the perseverance and courage of Corrie.

I’d give it 6 stars if I could.

How had I never heard of this book until now? Corrie Ten Boom's soft heart in the face of such cruelty should be a model to Christians everywhere.

My only excuse for waiting this many years to read this book is that I thought I already knew it. I had heard stories of the ten Boom family and even seen videos of Corrie ten Boom speaking. Outlines and shadows had been drawn throughout my childhood and youth, but they did no justice to the fullness of their story.

This was a tremendous book beautifully and softly written. The horrors of WW2 are couched in joy, faith, courage, and determination. I found it both inspiring and convicting. Not just the family's experiences with the war, but their gracious and generous habits before and after the war. It's a sobering encounter to see some of such meager provisions give so freely.

I cannot recommend this book loudly enough.

I cannot believe I was today years old when I read this book. It's amazing. Told in a simple matter of fact way it's so full of life lessons and heartbreaking events that are also simultaneously uplifting. The ten Boom family were both ordinary and amazing and I guess that's what makes it such an inspiring story. In difficult times we turn to the Savior, to faith, and he makes them into lessons and opportunities to grow. Read this book!

I was not prepared for how different this biography would be compared to all of the other WWII survivors' stories that I have read. I think stories like "Night" are important to recognize the depth of atrocities done to the victims in concentration camps, but if you read any of those stories, you need to also read this one to renew your faith in God and humanity. The messages of hope and love and forgiveness in this book are so important. I am in awe of the miracles that Corrie and her family experienced. Their faith and testimonies are inspiring.
emotional hopeful inspiring medium-paced

The Hiding Place: The Triumphant True Story of Corrie Ten Boom by Corrie ten Boom – If you have read any of my nonfiction reviews, I tell you that I really only read sad nonfiction. I wouldn’t call this an exception, but it is such a triumph of the abundant grace of God that it remains full of hope in the midst of darkness. Be prepared to cry though! Happy Reading!

A heartbreaking page-turner. A biographical novel by Corrie Ten Boom and her experience in a concentration camp during WWII.
