This isn't the first time I've read this BUT it is the first time I've read it in English.
As someone who read it in its first language, I have to say a lot of the jokes were lost in translation which was unfortunate. But I tried to think about how I would translate it and I don't know that I could have done a better job other than better translation notes at the end. I thought they were confusing and didn't really explain anything very well.
I tried looking at this as a first-time reader and I think it's more than ok. I think it's a fun read. But maybe not for someone who was deeply connected to either religion. I think that's just an American thing. We're kind of uptight (at least in the midwest where I'm at)
Not looking at the translation, I think the little snippets of life for Jesus and Buddha are also. I think it's better since I know about all the topics involved (Buddhism, Christianity, Japanese life)

Very funny, and I appreciate the jokes' sophistication as well as all the footnotes explaining the jokes to my uninformed ass. Just a nice fun read overall!

This one combines the first two volumes of the manga.
It was a bit of difficulty reading it, because my German is a bit rusty, but I had a lot of fun reading it and will be buying the next 2 in 1 volume. :)
Not going to write a review due to the material of this manga and possibilities of offending someone.

Very enjoyable! Would recommend!
After reading so many psychological thrillers and “Zadnja Stanica Vinkovci” (which I didn't end up finishing cause it sucked), I needed to read something relaxing (even though I've been reading this for months now).
It definitely was a case of “liking something so much that you don't want to continue engaging with it”.
I'll give it a 5/5! Will be looking for volume 2!

There’s an almost infinite number of ways a manga about Jesus and Buddha closing out the 20th century by hanging out as two broke, young dudes in Tokyo could go madly, offensively, heretically wrong (only 40% of the Earth to risk offending) and yet, somehow this is pulled off with tact, cleverness, and hilarity. Often attempting to conceal their true identities out in public and failing miserably is a setup that never gets old (Jesus’ stigmata opens when he is nervous, he accidentally turns rocks into bread or levitates when excited, animals sacrifice themselves for Buddha when he is unwell or heavenly deities try to care for him when he turns little normal things into aesthetic practices, etc). Clearly many agree because this series that began in 2006 is still running with new installments! The misadventures of these two heavenly buddies is a silly, witty, good time.
