Not me, expecting a lighter read and ending up crying three times LOL but seriously, this book flew by. The characters were so developed and well-written; am rooting for them even after the point the point ended!
cute! very sweet, and I liked the way the novel handled mental health struggles.

Rounding up to 3 stars because this book got me out of a reading slump and because it tackled mental health, racism and sexism in sports— hockey, this time.
Still it felt pretty average in terms of characters and pacing and I skipped most of it because I couldn't get invested in the characters. At least it got me reading again after months.

I think it is a good representation of how people who you don’t suspect to have mental health issues have mental issues. It’s also showing how Mickey struggles with expressing his sexuality and how he deals with telling people in his life. For anyone who has ever struggled with sexuality or mental health issues, this book will represent how hard those thing can be to just accept about you and how hard and painful it is to tell anyone you love.
i related to mickey a bit too much: (bisexual, check. mentally ill, check. anxiety induced emotional constipation, check. short, check. black sheep of family, check. constantly going through existential crises, check… so on & so forth).
honestly, this book might actually be about me, just squint a bit and replace hockey with academia while pretending i’m some sort of prodigy. so yeah, i indeed did devour this in 24 hours because i wanted to see how things played out for mickey due to the fact that, secretly, he is a mirror of me in an alternate universe.
however, and this is a BIG HOWEVER, this book as a whole needed to be longer?? the ending is so underdeveloped??? i need more information?? those loose ends needed to be tied?? maybe i’m obnoxiously reliant on long, superfluous books with defined endpoints, but the end made me feel so unsatisfied… that being said, the whole rest of the book was perfect

good gay hockey book! strange that this is a niche. themes of toxic masculinity, protagonist is in the closet and acts like a fuck boy at times but hey there’s gotta be a romantic conflict.

I sobbed my way through most of this. Sometimes it felt like they had taken thoughts and feelings from my head and spoke them outloud
