This is the first story of Catalina's arc. OK, the first full book, since _Diamond Fire_ was mostly Catalina and was a great transition from Nevada.
It is now three years since the recognition of House Baylor. Catalina is Head of the house. They are about to lose the three-year protection for a new House. And, of course, all hell breaks loose.
Alessandro will grow to be an interesting character, but he is way too much of a pushy jerk in this book. For the first 2/3 of the book, Catalina was way too often acting as a lovestruck 15 year old. Which was really disconcerting, since she is Head of the house (Nevada having gone off with House Rogan). I got a feeling that the authors were pitching it a bit hard for a YA audience. My review would have been 3 stars, except that Catalina drastically improved near the end of the book.
The chemistry and the romance is not, so far, up to the Nevada/Rogan trilogy. Maybe it will get there.
The action is fast and furious. Perhaps a bit too kinetic. I am not sure how Houston has very much architecture left standing.
Victoria's scene was excellent. The depiction of the fine and careful balancing of the society was quite good.

Solid addition to the Hidden Legacy series. Three stars because Alessandro is condescending and annoying as hell. Catalina can do better.

I thought I would miss Nevada and Rogan but Catalina is a great character. I enjoyed this book as much as any of the original trilogy and can't wait for the next.
