I went into this almost blind and with low expectations, because aside from This Savage Song I wasn't that big of a fan of Schwab's YA stuff. However, I really, thoroughly enjoyed this. Even though the ending was formulaic and quite predictable, the concept and the writing carried the book (Schwab never misses with those) and I couldn't put it down. Roland is my favorite character, I just couldn't stop fangirling over his scenes. His dynamic with Mackenzie was so Giles-Buffy coded and if you know me, you know how I feel about Giles

Loved it!! The scope of VE Schwab's imagination is fantastic
adventurous mysterious fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I really really enjoyed this book, it was so mysterious and intriguing. Mac is such a great female lead, someone I can see myself being friends with. Also, Victoria's writing is AHmazing. The characters were relatable, Roland, and Wes especially were my favourites. Love the guyliner. The story is brilliant, I can't wait to hear more from The Archived, from Mac, Wes, Roland and the others. Definitely reading the sequel.

I love everything about this book. It's so unique. A library full of bodies that store memories? People who chase down memories that wake up? Family drama, a hotel turned apartments full of colorful characters, and layers of good and evil with so much overlap that they're indiscernable.. A pretty boy. And a tough girl with real weaknesses and depth and personality. It just works. I love it. :)

I liked this book alot! I was alittle slow in the first few chapters (at least for me) but after I got through that part, I just sat all day and read it! The characters are interesting and the story itself is really creative.

First thing to get out of the way: Da is Mackenzie Bishop’s grandfather. Yes, it confused me for a little bit too. The Archived is a story that continues to theorize on the question: where do we go after we die? In this book, the dead reside in the Archive like books on the shelves of a library where only the librarians can read them. If these Histories (as they’re called) get out into the space around the Archive (named the Narrows) it’s up to the Keepers and Crew to return them to the library.

I really liked this book. I liked it so much I read the entire thing in two days while on vacation, then proceeded to re-read it a couple of days later. One thing I’ve found I like about Victoria Schwab’s writing is the natural relationships between the characters. Mackenzie’s parents weren’t idiots, or worse, absent as is commonly found in YA novels. Instead they’re very much present in Mac’s life, often worried about her health as she stretches herself between her life as a Keeper and as a teenage girl. Mac’s relationship with Wesley Ayers is another good example of Ms. Schwab’s writing prowess, they’re relationship, though it happened a little suddenly was still believable and fun to read (also you can cut that romantic tension with a knife). The mystery of the novel may be one of the biggest reasons I finished this book so fast. I’m of the younger age, but the twists and turns kept me up at night. Finally, someone please give Mac a break.

Wes is so cute
I'm totally not crying right now

Unsurprisingly, I quite enjoyed this spooky little novel about a young girl who works to ensure that the ghosts that are housed in the stacks after people pass on don't sneak back into the real world. As a concept, I found this to be incredibly intriguing and, as always, Schwab does an exceptional job at world-building and using an excellent balance of setting description alongside character development. Speaking of, I loved our main character's growth throughout the novel, allowing her to understand the parts of herself that made her into a worthy Keeper and to acknowledge how she had been letting her grief over her brother's passing control her life. That being said, I did find this book to be not as exciting and complex as others by this author. While I know many have high hopes for this if they are reading from Schwab's backlist, I think it's important to recognize that this was one of her first books and you can certainly see the seeds of her genius even if it's not as strong as in her more recent novels (which, I mean, obviously it's not going to be because she was growing as a writer). Overall, however, I do think this was an entertaining read and am excited to continue on to book two.

Another non-disappointment, Ms. Schwab ❤️❤️
Now one of my favorites. Thank you.
May you live a very long and happy life.
