Co mě dostalo? Originalita. Styl psaní. A příběh sám o sobě.
A pokud jde o jedinečný styl psaní autorky .. popsala bych ho jedním slovem. Atmosférický.
Obloha záhad, předkrm lsti, posyp překvapení, špetka romantiky, zrnko historie, kousek hororu, náplň vtipu a poleva krimi.

“We protect the past. And the way I see it, that means we need to understand it.”
Prostě úplně každý obyčejný člověk, kterého by jste mohli potkat v normálním životě, akorát s tím rozdílem, že by nebyl Keeper. Nemohl vás číst, ani předměty, nehonil a nezavíral by Historie zpátky kam patří .. a hlavně, by o tom celém vůbec nevěděl.
A to z jednoho jediného důvodu. A proto k tomu dodám ještě pár vět. Dokáže vás vždy aspoň trochu rozesmát. Pomůže vám skoro s čímkoli. Je chytrý. Dokáže citovat knihy. (To je vždycky fajn, ne?). Většinu času se směje. A opravdu má nějaký ten charakter.
“It takes at least three assassination attempts to scare me off. And even then, if there are baked goods involved, I might come back.”
Svět budete zbožňovat i s prostředím. Styl psaní V. Schwab si naprosto zamilujete a budete chtít víc.
“You're trying to block out every bit of noise. But people are made of noise, Mac. The world is full of noise. And finding quiet isn't about pushing everything out. It's just about pulling yourself in.”

I might as well just read everything VE Schwab has ever written, apparently I like all of it.
Grief, death, lies.
My biggest impression from this book is just how relatable it was despite how different Mac's life and experiences are to mine. I've never grieved anyone, never had many of the experiences Mac had, and still I could relate to her feelings, especially those related to lying and honesty, and her family dynamic.
I believe that many people may find something relatable in this book.
The plot felt somewhat loose at the beginning, a set of clues with no initial obvious connection to the main theme of the book that happened to actually be related to it. What I mean is, the trigger of the events didn't feel well justified.
The reveal was underwhelming and the last reveal felt rushed, as well as did the last chapter.
There are many things we didn't get to dive in, didn't get to explore and didn't even gave closure to, yet it still felt conclusive, just enough to feel like a chapter is over.
I don't know how harsh this part of the review may sound, I don't really care about this faults, what matters to me the most is my experience with the story and the characters, and I had a great time with The Archived.
Now for the most personal comments: I cried so much with this book, so much more than I have cried with any other book ever, but not in the ugly-painful way, it was just sadness. I was crying but I didn't feel like I was getting crushed, I didn't want to close the book, I didn't dread reading it, I wanted to cry and that was ok, it wasn't a bad thing at all.
Somehow it managed to be light on me while touching very heavy and emotional topics, and it was exactly what I needed.

I have been an idiot. I needed a book for a read-a-thon, one that I could read in a day. This was one of the shortest books on my TBR and from the description that I got from people I thought it would be an exciting and quick read. I picked up this book without reading the back of it myself, and that was my mistake.
What I knew before picking it up: it's about a girl who needs to put the histories (=souls?memories? Something like that) to rest that wake up from the Archive.
What I didn't know: that this book also includes a lot of grief. Mac has lost her grandfather a couple of years ago and she misses him but it's not really raw. What still is really raw is the fact that her little brother died due to an accident a couple of months ago. I lost my dad not too long ago and times like Christmas are difficult because I miss him even more than normal. Had I known that Mac would be grieving so much in this book I wouldn't have picked it up during Christmas (I would still have read it). It really slowed me down a lot because it made me reflect on my own situation a lot. One positive thing that I can say about this though is that, in my opinion, the grief was done in a very realistic way.
My one other complaint is that this book didn't feel as action-y as I thought it would. There is fighting but the pace didn't feel as exciting as I thought it would be. I thought it would have more action but it was more walking around and talking (and kissing this weird character that made no sense unless you wish to compare it to someone drinking or abusing drugs to forget their pain). The pacing just didn't work for me and that, combined with the grief, made me not always be interested to pick this book up.
One thing that I absolutely adore in this book is the world. I loved the system of the Archive and the Keepers and Librarians and Crew. The memories that we got to see were so interesting and the murder mystery added so much to an already interesting plot! I still have some questions though about the whole situation after this book and I have no clue if they will be answered in the sequel but I do hope so!
