This may be a strong statement, but if I could do nothing but read Jamie Applegate Hunterโ€™s nonsense romantasy I would be as happy as a clam.

But when itโ€™s excellent writing and a feral MMC and you canโ€™t help but stay up all night turning pages? Sometimes the microscope doesnโ€™t matter.

Roman and Violet delivered on everything I loved about the first book in this series. Banter, never ending devotion, pining, angst, other woman drama, and spice that makes you blush? Iโ€™m in.

There were a few moments I was shocked. A few moments I fanned myself. One or two tear-jerking moments. Some twists and turns. This book had it all. I loved every minute, and I canโ€™t wait for the next one.

This books was sent by the author as an ARC. All of my thoughts however brief are my own.

Enjoyable and doesn't move as quickly as its predecessor.

โค๏ธ Very slow burn, but Roman is incredibly obsessed

Spice Scale
 ใ€ฐ๏ธ No romantic plot
๐ŸคA dash of romantic plot is there, but mostly handholding. The romance in the title is a blip
๐ŸฉถA romantic plot is present, but doesn't get past kisses and hugs.
๐Ÿ’š There is some light spice, but closed door
๐Ÿงก There are mildly descriptive spicy scenes, but they are finished very quickly and could be easily skipped over.
๐ŸคŽ Spice is present, very descriptive, but doesn't overwhelm the plot.
๐Ÿฉท There is a plot, but there are quite a lot of descriptive spicy scenes that are different encounters that span back to back chapters (chapter changes that are just POVchanges do not count).
๐Ÿ’œ Plot? There's just enough to get to the next round of spicy times.

I was lucky enough to get an e-ARC.

I loved the male main character in this one, completely unhinged, which is my type (therapy anyone?) And his mom? Loved her too.

The longer length of this book really worked in its favor. The story and characters had time to settle in, which made me feel more invested compared to the first book in the series (which was much shorter). I also enjoyed that we got to follow the characters from their childhood, with short glimpses into certain years, it really showed how their relationship developed over time. Mucho like.

My favorite part? The letters. I'm such a sucker for that kind of thing. I need to tell my husband to start to write letters to me (he probably won't).

Just when I thought things were starting to fall into place, Iโ€™d look at how much was left and realize, nope, more twists incoming. This happened several times.

I really enjoyed this book.  I wasn't sure what to expect from it, since it is a fantasy romance with very little fantasy aspects, but I actually really enjoyed it.

I was obsessed with Violet and Roman's story, although I wish they had been together the entire time. I did find Vivian and Violet's story to be a little triggering for me, just because of some personal aspects of it.

This isn't a book with a ton of plot, so I feel like if you go into it with those expectations, you'll really enjoy it.  There's also very little world building so I feel like it would be a good introduction to fantasy books

This was such a cute read! Definitely good if you need a low stakes fantasy read, as the fantasy plot is minimal and overall not a huge factor to the real meat of the storyโ€ฆ. The romance.

The way Roman loves violet endlessly has me swooning. And though it takes a bit of a buildup for the big reveal, hot damn is it worth the wait.

5 freaking stars! I loved Roman and Violet. I loved their banter. I loved their chemistry. I loved everything about them.

This was so much better than Viciously Yours and I think itโ€™s because we got to see them fall for each other from the start. Violet brought that boy/man to life. He was her fierce protector ready to do whatever was needed to keep her safe and avenge her. I loved that they did activities together. Their pranks were so much fun. Him turning into a shell enthusiast for her.. perfect. I appreciated Vi making sure that Rome did things for himself and made sure he laughed.

I loved that her nickname was Princess because he thought she looked like a fairytale Princess when they first met.

I loved all the connections to the Vincula Realm. Samyaza, Orcus, the seraphim. JAH is really setting up a multiverse and Iโ€™m here for it! I also need Samโ€™s book prontoooo! I miss him.

I loved War. I loved how dedicated and protective of Violet he was from the start. Even when her and Roman werenโ€™t speaking, War was there.

Babs?!? Come on. Freaking perfect. I was hoping she would have became Viโ€™s familiar now that she has royal fae magic. It kind of felt like thatโ€™s where it was going but no, just a pet. It was cute she terrorized War too lol

Vivian was of course the obvious villain and she was a good one. Sibling rivalry that went too far on Vicโ€™s part..

The other villain I didnโ€™t see coming. Well not the way it ended up. I had an idea of what their motivation was and I was partly correct. There was just a deeper plot with that person and once we got all the pieces it all made sense.

Lastly. Fuck Marissa. She was the worst and I wish Vi had done more to her. I do hope the next ones donโ€™t have an obsessed, obviously in love but oblivious to the MMC friend that tries to intervene. This happened in the first book and again this one. I donโ€™t want the stories to be too formulaic. There are other ways to create angst or tension than a jealous girl who doesnโ€™t have a chance.

4-4.5โญ๏ธ
Okay, I loved Viciously Yours so when I had the opportunity to read this one early, I actually screeched with excitement. ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿค—

Let me tell you guys, I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!! I loved Rennick in Viciously Yours, but Roman may have stolen my heart in this one! I loved how thoughtful he was and how he was secretly kind of a nerd. ๐Ÿ˜  I enjoyed reading how down bad he was for Violet. He was obsessive, possessive, jealous, protective, and absolutely gone for her. He is morally black and a bit ridiculous in the best way. Major touch-her- (or upset her)- and-โ˜ ๏ธ energy. Violet is more of a soft, damsel in distress type FMC who is kind, creative, playful, and sweet. I love that she taught him to laugh and be less serious. ๐Ÿฅฐ

I loved that this book was much longer than the first book as it gave me more time to really connect with the characters. I really liked that the first ten chapters took the time to show how their relationship developed from immediate childhood friends to something more and explored the challenges and complex dynamics related to this before getting to the current timeline. (I was already smitten with how cute they were together by chapter 2 haha ๐Ÿ˜)

There is quite a bit of OWD & OMD, but Roman was ALWAYS with her and devoted to her mind, body, and soulโ€ฆeven if she didnโ€™t always realize it. ๐Ÿ‘€ His heart never stopped being Violetโ€™s even when they werenโ€™t meant to be together. Itโ€™s a bit of a slow-burn due to their circumstances, but when the spice does pick up later in the book, itโ€™s spicyyyy. ๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿ”ฅ

I really enjoyed our cast of side characters! I especially loved War, Romanโ€™s familiar, who looked out for Violet and cared for her like he was her familiar not Romanโ€™s lol, and Slayton who was a great friend to them both (loathe as Roman would be to admit to the friendship lol), and Romanโ€™s parents (who especially his lowkey violent mom haha.)

I also liked that, like in the first book, there was an epistolary element to this book too! Iโ€™m always a sucker for letters and notes!๐Ÿ˜

I feel like if you like Fantasy Rom-Coms like Assistant to the Villain but want it less cozy and more unhinged and/or you like Dark Rom-Coms like Butcher and Blackbird, but you want it fantasy, youโ€™d probably like this series! I donโ€™t if itโ€™s actually categorized as a Dark Fantasy Rom-Com, but I personally find the unhinged ridiculousness of the MMC  in this book so funny. He definitely had me giggling! The FMC was also pretty funny too! This series is the perfect balance of sweet, swoony, spicy, and unhinged. Itโ€™s such a fun time! Iโ€™m a little obsessed (see what I did there? lol ๐Ÿ˜‰).

Thank you to Jamie Applegate Hunter for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
