I feel like I read one of the most beautiful poems ever written. Not beautiful for the choice of words or even topics, beautiful for its depth, beautiful for its ability to show you so many things at once. I love this book, not only for its style but for the glimpse into history that so often has repeated itself.

Repetitive style of writing wasn't for me but I thought it was an important book.

I really enjoyed this book at first but after a few chapters I had trouble motivating myself to finish it. I am fascinated with the history/time period of the stories within and I felt like I did learn about a portion of a culture I was previously unaware of but the author's writing style was flat. This collection reads more like a research paper than novel. I would have much preferred a focused story on 3-4 of the women and their lives instead of so broad of a telling. The story feels stretched too far there were too many characters and not enough detail. I found myself wanting to know more but was left waiting. Its like the author had 100 unfinished thoughts and just put them in anyway.

This was a very different little book--especially to listen to. I like that the author attempted to tell the story of these mail order brides who in many ways have been forgotten. The format was unique but could get annoying to listen to.

Important stories, and I loved how well it covered the time from these women's arrival as picture brides to the haunting ending as they are sent to the relocation camps. I didn't love the cacaphony of voices, but I saw its purpose and could tolerate it for such a short book.
